Lumbridge Swamp

Introduction

Exploring Lumbridge Swamp
Lumbridge Swamp is one of the dreariest patches of overgrown, sodden land in RuneScape. Insects buzz and bite within the tangled mess of trees and pools of stagnant water. The only permanent residents of the swamp have a pretty good reason to be there.

Location

Map of Lumbridge Swamp
The swamp occupies the whole mass of land south and south-west of Lumbridge, so if you walk south, west or east through the swamp you will reach the sea that cuts short the southern end of Misthalin.

To get to Lumbridge, you can either walk around the wall that marks the northern edge of the swamp, or head north from the Mining site in the south-east of the swamp to follow a path into Lumbridge graveyard.

To the north-west is Draynor Village, which lies along the border with Asgarnia, though it remains a town of Misthalin. If you travel west along the coast from the swamp you will reach the long bridge that connects the Wizards' Tower to the mainland.

Points of Interest

Points of Interest
Despite being a dismal mire, Lumbridge Swamp has much to commend it to travellers and adventurers alike. In the eastern half of the swamp is a mine convenient to Lumbridge, so fresh-faced adventurers need not venture far to gain their first experiences prospecting.

For those who tire of the mine in the east of the swamp, there is another in the south-west with higher level ores available.

Further into the swamp is a small shack, apparently unoccupied. There is also the entrance to the Lumbridge Swamp Dungeon, watched over by a cunning salesman ready to sell his candles to unprepared explorers. Properly prepared adventurers will also be able to locate the Water Altar concealed in the tangles of swamp plants.

In the west of the swamp there is an old hermit priest, Father Urhney, who may not be very friendly, but is useful in the right situation. Just north of Father Urhney is a camp of 'heroes', tracking something or someone in pursuit of their next quest.

Personalities

Father Urhney
[image]
Father Urhney has been in self-imposed exile from Lumbridge for reasons known only to himself. He doesn't like visitors, and likes Father Aereck of Lumbridge even less. He does know the ways of the spectral, though, and will provide adventurers with a Ghostspeak amulet if they promise to stop bothering him.
Candle Seller
[image]
The Candle Seller is one of the most brilliant salesmen in RuneScape (after Ali Morrisane, of course), and has positioned himself to take advantage of adventurers seeking to tackle the depths of Lumbridge Swamp Dungeon. He sells candles to light their way - for what many call a huge price. His only weakness is that he is prone to explaining how to make lanterns, which could well put him out of business.
Father Urhney can be found in his shack in the west of Lumbridge Swamp. The Candle Seller, obviously, never leaves his position near the entrance to the Lumbridge Swamp Dungeon.
The Warrior
[image]
The warrior certainly looks fairly militant, but his armour clearly isn't of the finest quality, nor is the axe in his hand. He isn't the sharpest pencil, and can be relied upon to give away information that he and his fellows don't want to give away.
The Wizard
[image]
The wizard is a supremely arrogant man, and seems to believe that wearing blue robes makes him a powerful sorcerer. He has never been seen to cast any spells of note, though, and his staff and beard are probably just there to make him look the part.
The warrior and his three fellows can be found in the north-west of the swamp. The wizard and his three fellows can be found in the north-west of the swamp.
The Monk
[image]
For a man of the priesthood, the monk is a distinctly rude individual. In fact, he's downright mean. Be thankful that he's questing in the swamp rather than tending to the faithful.
The Archer
[image]
The archer is a sensitive girl, and doesn't appreciate being mistaken for a man. She's also more careful with information than the warrior.
The monk and his three fellows can be found in the north-west of the swamp. The archer and her three fellows can be found in the north-west of the swamp.

Quests

The following quest can be started in Lumbridge Swamp:
The Lost City (Members)

Creatures of the Mire

Giant Rat (Level 3)
The swamp is relatively low on creatures, and only the giant rat is a regular patron. Giant rats are not much of a threat, even to the least experienced adventurers.
Goblin (Level 5)
Though marginally more dangerous than the goblins around Lumbridge, the goblins in the swamps are still no real danger. Only the lowest level adventurers need take care around them.
Giant rats can be found throughout the central region of the swamp. Goblins can be found in the north of the swamp, running along the wall that separates the swamp from the fields and woods west of Lumbridge Castle.
Unicorn (Level 15)
There is also a unicorn, though technically beyond the bounds of the swamp. Unicorns are much more challenging foes than the goblins and giant rats of the swamps, but they are also more worthy opponents.
The unicorn can be found west of the adventurers' camp.

Miscellaneous

  • The empty shack in the swamp is not so empty: searching the shack may provide members with several useful gardening tools.
  • Swamp tar spawns in various spots around the swamp (members).
  • If you've lost the zombie head from the Hallowe'en event (no longer available), you can dig up a new one in the swamp where the zombies were. See the Holiday Items Guide for more details.
