Jagex Clan Cup 2010

What is the Jagex Clan Cup?

Hello and welcome to this year's Jagex Clan Cup 2010! The clan competition has returned for a second year and packed full of even more awesome.

The Jagex Clan Cup is the competition to see who is the best clan in all of the RuneScape in a number of different fields: Combat, Skilling and a Combination of the two. Registration is now closed for the competition meaning that clans can no longer sign up to take part. For more detailed information about each Cup, click on the right link:

How can I get involved?

Registration is closed to take part in the Jagex Cup but you can always find your next favourite clan and cheer them on from the sidelines!

If you're not in a clan and want to take part in the Jagex Cup, do not fret as we have a thread in the Looking for a Clan section that should be right up your street. Post what section you want to be a part of and I'm sure clans will talk to you or reply if they think that you're the right person to help them win.

What has changed from last year?

This year we took on all of the feedback and suggestions from last year, had a look at them and then implemented all of the ones that were needed and made sense. We then laid out our plans for this year's competition on the forums for a number of weeks to get even more feedback and make more changes! Here are the notable things that we have changed:
  • Registration is more clearer with direct instructions.
  • Live member lists of clans are now available to be viewed on the Jagex Cup forum.
  • Added the "combat sub-divisions" to the Combat Cup that gives clans who may not win the main competition a chance to fight on a fairer playing field.
  • Added "Buddy Skills" to the Skilling Cup to give a new and innovative way to test the best skillers.
  • Explained at length how the Skilling Cup is calculated.

A number of other smaller things have changed too, like not needing to wear a Chef's Hat to skill, as well as our internal tracking/calculation systems.

What are the rewards?

Knowing that you're the best clan in RuneScape for Combat, Skilling or Combined! Aside from the knowledge that you're the best clan, we do have a number of other rewards for the winning clans of the Combat Cup, Skilling Cup and the Combination Cup (but not any of the combat sub-divisions). They are:
  • A Big Ticket draw for each winning clan.
  • An in-game plaque immortalising each winning clan at various locations across the land.

Good luck to everyone, it's going to be a fantastic competition.

Jagex Cup FAQ

Hey everyone,

There have been a number of threads popping up ever since the launch of the Jagex Cup and I've been answering them where I can. To ensure that none of these get lost, and people can see answers already given, I thought we'd add an FAQ from all of the threads.

Could you specify which skills can be drawn as "normal skill" and which combination as "buddy skill"?

As for a list of skills, it should be fairly obvious that the skills in the normal skills will not be the "buyable" skills such as Cooking. The pairs of skills are easy to guess too, Fishing & Cooking, Woodcutting & Firemaking etc.

"During the session you must not trade, bank or drop resources. Resources are defined as logs, raw fish or any other processable materials in the drawn skill."

So what do we do with them?

That's for the Buddy Skills where you'll have paired skills like Woodcutting and Fletching. That means that you'll cut the logs and then convert them into unstrung bows or whatever you choose to.

For the normal skilling, it's still the same when it's a single skill so you can drop, trade or do whatever you want to them.

1. Are the rewards only for First Place or are there going to be rewards for Second and Third as well?

2. Are the winners of last year's Jagex Cup going to get rewards as well?

Only the winners of each Cup will get a reward although the second and third placed clans will get a mention on the news post announcing all of the winners. As it's a team-based competition, rewards are crazily hard to sort out as we can't realistically give a potential 100 players 3 months membership for finishing second.

As for last years winners, they will not receive any rewards like Big Tickets or membership. However, their name will be on the in-game plaque listing them as 2009's winners.

How is XP tracked in Buddy Skilling?

They'll be added together and converted to XP/hour. So for example (I'll probably add this to the thread as it's not there, ty for that):

Fishing and Cooking get drawn and you do a 2 hour session. 115k in Fishing and 140k in Cooking. Add them together, 255,000 XP, and then divide the XP by the amount of minutes to get the XP/minute, then multiply by 60 to get an average of XP/hour which in this example would be 127,500 XP/hour.

The result being 127,500 XP/hour. This would then get added to the other Buddy skills session and then divided by two to get the overall XP/hour for Buddy skills.

What is a Big Ticket?

Information about the Big Tickets can be found here.

I was just wondering if experience for a particular skill is still counted towards the competition if a player has already reached the maximum 200m point.

If you have maxed out the experience in a skill, any exp you gain will not be registered. This is why we allow for a bit of flexibility by selecting your 10 best skillers in your clan so you aren't stuck with someone who can't take part.

Can there be a subdivision for pures 70 defence and lower?

The sub-divisions are set for the competition and it was a defence level that was OK during the planning stages when it was live for people to talk about it.

As there are so many pures out there, I had to make a decision about the right sort of defence level cap so I went with 45.

Will at least 1 of the drawn skills be F2P, or is even that entirely random?

It is random but the majority of the skills that aren't "buyable" are both F2P and P2P making it extremely likely that there'll be F2P skilling.

Will Dungeoneering be 1 of the possible skills to be drawn?

I hadn't even thought about Dungeoneering to be drawn, it won't be a skill that will be available to be drawn.

As a question interest, I would like to know, do the Leaders need to do any work of counting the XP/Per Hour at ALL?

Yeah it's all done by us, the XP is gathered from the systems that monitor the servers and your accounts so they're very accurate.

If my clan were interested in being in the P2P and F2P 20v20s could we do both? And how should we go about posting that, just saying we want to do Either?

Is it going to come out as one winner overall in the 20v20s or will there be a F2P 20v20 winner and a P2P 20v20 winner?

There is no separate F2P and P2P 20v20, it's one sub-division. The fights in that sub-division can be played in F2P or P2P, or forced F2P if one of the clans is pure F2P.

You can't fight in both P2P Unlimited and P2P/F2P 20v20 as you can only fight in one sub-division at a time.

Is the use of XP lamps not allowed at all (and the lamps should be dropped or kept in inventory)? Or are people able to use them in other skills than the skill of that week?

You must not use an XP lamp during any session, no matter what XP you spend it on. If you do as much as rub the lamp then that session will not count.

How long does the Jagex Cup last?

The weekend that hosts the final of the Jagex Cup is scheduled for 7th/8th August.

What are the Default rules for this category if both clans cannot compromise? (Sub-Divisions)

It depends on how they signed up. If one clan signed as F2P only then it would be held in F2P. If both signed as either, we'd take a look at the situation and make a decision on a case by case basis.

I don't get how long this competitionis supposed to last. Jagex draws a skill then we get a week to register 10 ppl? When is the actual competing? How long do we as a clan have on that skill? How many skills are drawn at a time? If you pick say, mining, when does Jagex start looking at sessions for their figuring? Do two skills run concurrently?

It goes a little something like this...

Sunday 27th (Week 1) - Normal Skill 1 is drawn, registration of 10 players for that skill starts.
Sunday 4th July (Week 2) - Skill 1 registration ends, scoring sessions start.
Sunday 11th July (Week 3) - Skill 1 scoring stops, Buddy skill pair is drawn and 10 player registration begins
Sunday 18th July (Week 4) - Buddy skill registration ends, Buddy skill scoring sessions start.
Sunday 25th July (Week 5) - Buddy skill sessions end, Normal Skill 2 is drawn and registration for 10 begins.
Sunday 1st August (Week 6) - Normal Skill 2 registration ends, scoring sessions begin.
Saturday 7th August - Scoring ends a day early at midnight.
Sunday 8th August - Winners are announced shortly after the grand finals of the Combat and Combined.

Is it accepted to switch the 10 members between skills?

You don't have to select the same 10 skillers for each skill, it wouldn't necessarily be a clan effort if only 10 people were involved.

We'll update this when we get more frequently asked questions in the future!
