Note to commenters / posters:

Please link up all the information. This is more of a cumulative update suggestion. It's bits and pieces of different sections won't work alone.

I'd like to mention the forum's code of conduct still applies, including the "Rant Forum". Users who breached of the code of conducts may end up in actions followed by the higher authority of RS forums.

After the forum communities update, spam is no longer tolerated in the Rant forum.

Happy Posting :)

- I do not endorse macroing or other form of using 3rd party software to alter the game experience.

- Before reporting a bot suspect, I use forms of basic logical / reflex tests (IQ tests). Since bots have 0 IQ, because they are made to perform specific tasks. Robotic / illogical movements are shown upon use of antibot measures, before reporting.

Example of an antibot measure from my Vinesweep Upgrade SuggestionV2 thread as part of the suggestion.

Also, try looking at W160, Arbury's essence teleport. Open the door house northwest of him, wait for people to come in, lock it, and they stand like a statue for hours.

I'd like to join hands with other righteous players, to convince Jagex to condemn Macroing. :)

This situation is so widespread to the extent that Jagex known fansites such as **************** have blogged regarding this issue and their views. (I shall not evade censor as suggested in code of conducts)

^Censored but its prolly the most updated one.

*If this goes on, Jagex may lose their truimph card, Runescape.

This solution is here to stay until Jagex beefs up the appeal/detection system.

(I'm using a conceptualised view of the problem, in the players' point of view, as well as their organisation. Being as unbiased as possible.)

Today, I believe that OVER 1%(more in fact) of Runescape population consists of Bots. In basically most skills.

**This is not a discussion, before any Forum Moderators try to lock the post, think again. Did Jagex choose escapism over reailty, that people are jumping onto the bandwagon, due to the incompetence of the current blackmarking system.

Example:
Hunter, Cooking, Vinesweeping, Fishing, Woodcutting...

If u ever try to disrupt these people, with whatever means, you'll find that some players are not able to continue doing their activities, or dart around randomly... Simply, because they aren't humans, they are bots.

I've personally witnessed too many of them, and the number is getting close to 3 DIGITS! That implys a lot about the current situation.

It indicates that the 2nd Bot frenzy is here. :@

Example of current situation.
RS population has 1000 bots. Enough evidence to ban 900 of them. But why does it take so long?

According to various source and my personal encounter with bot friends, they get banned only months after, or escape detection.

- US$5 is lost for each member bot they ban.
- If they were to ban all with sufficient evidence
*5x900 =$4,500

-These bots may potentially pay a year of membership total. If that so,

-12x4500=$ 54,000 potential losses a year off their books.

Now do u know why when its possible to rid these bots within days, but it takes months for them to get banned or give temporary bans?

If the system is as effective as suggested, it should take only days to ban a bot, their actions are are obvious enough to differ from real players as well.

Jagex may be able to collect more membership fees this way.

_________________________________________________________

Bottom line is, if they were to ban 1, they have to ban all to be fair.

If you do not want to lose this huge number of customers, consider this.

Firstly, change the bot detection approach to using simple IQ and reflexes test to differentiate bots from humans, since bots have 0 IQ.(Instead using the team of experts approach)

Then, rollback their exp as a first warning to level 1. +A temporary ban(extended ban depending on estimated amounts of Net Worth gained off botting)
**Embrace M E mentioned about this feature in RSC -->> 1st sentence.

-Take a monetary value from their bank. (Shakypuddin)

-Botted Game experience is simply underhand Experience, or dirty experience.

-You would not lose your paying customers this way. Unless its repeated offence.

-Real players won't feel angry like in the current situation, as they spent time in their LIFE training in Runescape, just for the levels and skillcapes.

Permanent ban on the second offence. No second words.

This may be a long term solution to get botting off their minds.

It will be effective, if such a "Corporal Punishment" is enforced.

I'd like to thank people for providing useful suggestions in advance. :)

Elaboration on taxation approach by Shakypuddin.

Has to be a steep TAX...some will say its not fair as i only started botting yesterday, some will get off lightly if they have been botting for months...but if the fine is enough then it should make them think twice at least...

as it stands someone could be going on holiday for a fortnight in a weeks time, so its beneficial for them to start botting...say after a week they dont get caught thats about 21k sharks (for example) sat in their bank..if they do get caught, they get a slapped wrist and 2 weeks ban whilst sunning themselves in Magaluf....

In summary, he means, the bot could treat the current banning system, as a holiday off Runescape, before botting further. :)

~I'd like to add on to his point, since items are calculated in terms of GP, a confirmed bot should have total assets in Bank/POH/Inventory converted to pure cash, it'll then be easier to remove their wealth gained.

(optional)To prevent mistakes from happening, Jagex may/may not want leave these these offenders with 1 single chance to appeal.

As part of our focus on the RuneScape community, weve transformed our offence system; weve also made some changes to the Rules of RuneScape. Most importantly, many offences will now expire after 12 months.

*Adapted from news archive, as at 12 May 2009

~Possible reasons for Jagex to do the appeal revamp on 12th May 2009~

For businesses, you maximize profits unless you're a non-profit organisation. They want more members, and most bots are money trees.

I hope

I do not have to repeat, Jagex changed from permanent to temporary, meaning they will not switch back, its their decision. They decided to release RS convicts.(effective from 12th May 2009, the day of horror.) This period is the period where the U.S. financial meltdown and global economic crisis happened, 2007 - 2009.

This is the period of time where several number of companies, especially small-medium enterprises etc.. gone into liquidation.

I felt that Jagex tried to hold on to the old policy, and only decided to mid 2009 suggest that they may be trying to avoid this already. But the situation isn't getting well quick.

If they aren't willing to budge(and they will not), you add cherries and other topings on top of our ice cream. They'll consider it most likely. :P

Also, removal of agressive random events further increased the botting activity.

Dooogy0's explaination stating why rollback will be effective.

For instance, if you want to give hardcore criminals(repeated botters in this case) the most effective punishment, you don't give them physical torment, mental torment leaves them with a permanent scar in their memories.
Number 1 fear of people in the world = Public Speaking.
Death is 5th, boils down to psychology...

I'm not psychotic. I'm only using extreme examples to prove this point.

In conclusion, by permanently banning a bot in 1st offence doesn't guarantee he/she will not bot(in some other game after quitting). Rollback + temp ban for a 1st and final warning takes away the artificial ego... botters also feel grievance( in the wrong way O_o )
, and stop thinking about botting eventually. :)

The entire report system is rather archaic and needs an overhaul. The form should require more detail instead of the 10 options or so we have to choose from.

Do you think Net Profit of Jagex is really millions (per month)?

Some basic calculation on definite expenses and revenue Pounds

Merchandise gross profit *1

add Membership Fee revenue *2

less Operating expenses Expenses:
Utility Expenses *3
Rental Expenses(3 offices) (if the land was leased) *4
Jagex employee salaries (hundereds of staff) *5
Server Costs (W1-171 + Jagex minigames) *6
Repair Expenses *7
Depreciation expense on assets such as computers *8
____
Net profit ?

No reason WHY they wouldn't want to lower revenue. They want to maximize revenue, decrease cost.

(To be continued on the next post...)

It isn't likely to be millions per month. They incur high expenditures. Have a glance at their average salaries in their recruitment site.

Also, count the number of servers they have to maintain, how many out of 171 RS worlds are f2p.

Plus, high taxes in Britain (because of healthcare) lowers the profitability further.

~
Actions speak louder than words. Consider the actions they are doing/happening.

- Appeal system reform (economic crisis period)
- Zero update weeks
- Increasing number of offline worlds
- Possible loss of marketshare in gaming industry.

I'm Runescaping not for currying flavour with Jagex. Their game was very appealing, until the recent years.

Though, some things can't be explained by words, it's stated on pen and paper that they really broke rules or not.

If Jagex were to give 1st hand info, stating that with effect from a particular date, Bots discovered will be punished with the new rule, the botting activity should cease. They could keep their money, and stop botting as well. Bots who don't read updates will then be the scapegoats of other bots..
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

-Look at the system changes. First, removal of "gold farmers". As they run on stolen cards. No choice, but to do so.

-Then, when gold farming ceased, agressive randoms were removed. ( Rock Golem/ Tree Spirit/ River Troll/ Security Guard/ Strange Plant/ Drunken Dwarf) It SHOULD have stayed.

-Reduction random frequency tremendously. This move was also unncessary as well. Since randoms are still rewarding. You never know if these people who asked for this change are players themselves.

-Botting activities are thriving again.

Win the heart of your players back truely, give them more satisfaction. We aren't the ones in the losing end. ;) A successful Gaming Business has players supporting it, NOT ABOUT THE NUMBER OF COMPUTERS SUPPORTING IT.

Many people feel that adoption of such an approach by Jagex would really be against the odds. I'm sure real RS fans are willing to fight this war against the BOTS. :)
_________________________________________________________________________

The "court cases" system update brought in a game code update as usual. Look at the drastic drop in number of players online for the next few days.

If possible, I'd like to take note of Online Population before & after the next system update.

~Understood that JH, I did get a little upset. I apologise for the mild name calling, after finding that some people were skimming the contents of this cumulative thread which made it irrelevant. ;)

Please ignore any form of skirmishes evident in this thread. Including certain posts I made. It doesn't help the situation at all.

Anti-Macro Event(Random Events) Vulnerabilities

-Minigame Waiting areas - Pest Control Landers (in off-worlds, currently the only vulnerability spotted) Increasing number of players misuse this vulnerability to evade randoms. They alch in lander boats.

Remove alching from ALL waiting rooms please.

-Non Agressive

-Ultra low frequency

-Lack of variation, new ones needed. Probably new variations, something like Dungeoneering puzzles.

Bots & Economy
 - Continued on Page 59. Fear not, Economics will clarify your doubts of removing them, and why no bad effects

There is a grand exchange limit. Upon purchasing an item, you can only buy a maximum number of it, hence its a preventive measure for manipulation.

At the expense of sacrificing players whose lifeline(cash) is mainly from resource skill, I don't believe its worth it.

Also, the grand demand and supply of most items aren't proportionate, you also can't be sure.

Finally, bots do bring in monetary values everyday. However, that's like turning GE into a "printing shop". It's turning into an oversupply.

~Refer to Page 59 for Market Equilibrium~

This stand of mine is very similar to the perspective of the fansite I mentioned above is having. Their information posted are very accurate, its also pretty formal, even no april fool pranks on April Fool's day.

To Sum Up...

I believe if we do not bring up this issue to Jagex, they'll be planning more measures for an even more lenient Rule System. As real players, we'll have no choice but to show the disgusted facial expression to Jagex by then. As you can see, they're creating lines of weaknesses into many aspects of this issue.

Players kept mum for such a long time. I believe this is the time we'll have to bring attention to Jagex act on this issue.

WE ARE WATCHING YOU

This is a situation where more facepalming would apply.

Simply, rollback their exp as a first warning. To the pre-botted exp.
