F Mod Posts; J Mod Posts.

IMPORTANT:

------------------------------------------------------------

If you dont have a green or gold background then you are wasting your time replying to this thread. Even if you are a non-mod and you reply, I will ignore it as the only posts that matter are those of a Moderator.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Were you annoyed by the above? If so, read on

If you are a poster who spends a lot of their time contributing to discussion threads, suggestions etc you will know what Im talking about.

Here is an example of something that is infecting the Forums:

Moderator posts:

F Mod 1: Page 1
F Mod 2: Page 3
J Mod 1: Page 5.

You may not think that including the above in a thread causes any harm, but the author is basically saying what I said initially: If you dont have a green or gold background then you are wasting your time replying to this thread. Even if you are a non-mod and you reply, I will ignore it as the only posts that matter are those of a Moderator.

Another example is this:

Supporter List:

Player1
Player 2
F Mod 1 <-- Z0mg! A Mod!
Player 3
F Mod 2 <-- I love mods! They R00le!
Player 4.

I do have an issue with support lists because they are of no use. Do they tell you anything about how well written the thread is? A support list is just a elongated list of names which offers no evaluation. What makes these lists even more detrimental is the singling out of Moderator posts to make the average Forum User feel subordinate.

Similarly, when a thread author makes one of their reserves simply to point out which pages moderators have posted on, it is suggesting that the only contributions that matter are those made with a coloured background. Forget about the players with a brown background? :@

Perhaps Moderators like feeling special and exclusive enough to have their name emphasized in a thread.

Personally, if a thread author dedicated a whole post just to point out the pages that the Mods have posted on, I would consider that spam as it doesnt, or rarely will, contribute to the topic of discussion.

What do you think? How do you feel about this?

Discuss.

There are circumstances where highlighting a Mod's post is ok. But if the author of the thread wants it... then i have no problem with it

Ignoring the two opinions above, I really don't think support lists are relevant to begin with, so why does it matter what is emphasized on a support list?

Jagex has even admitted support lists are of very limited use to them. They can glance at rough numbers of who likes the idea... BUT they should look at the idea first and who likes it maybe not at all.

For example, I bet you that a thread in suggestions (if allowed) that covers guns or horses would get a TON of support. That supporter list would be very long. Yet Jagex wisely looks at the idea and knows both would likely ruin the game.

Really, we are arguing an almost moot point here.

I agree with your arguments and idea's, if a player suddenly becomes a forum mod then their ''special''. If they post it will be named in the top post such as you suggest.
