so i really would like to get 71 prayer for the curse prayer deflect melee.

in order to get it, i need to get 71 prayer and get mining+smithing up for prerequisite quests

my current plan is to get 64 mining (for curse of arrav, currently 62) by mining 4,000-something coal at the coal trucks west of seers. (ill actually get to like 66 mining)

sell the 4,000 coal and use all the money to buy the 5,000-something iron ore i need to get 65 smithing for devious minds (61 smithing atm)

i then plan to make all the ore into bars, hammer them into iron nails to make brutal arrows, then try to get raurg bones to use at ectofunctus. im hoping 2.5k iron bars/37.5k nails that i should have enough brutal arrows to get all the bones i need (also from theiving coffins maybe?), currently 63 prayer atm. i realize prayer is very slow to level, and no one gets it up fast without spending lots of money, however, i use every lamp and penguin point on prayer so i do get some free XP every now and then

i would rather not spend any money (other then what i make from mining) in getting to 71 prayer. is there a better spot to mine? im not worried on how long 64 mining will take as im almost there already, so im definitely not powermining/dropping ores. i dont think very many people do the brutal arrow/zogre thing or collect raurg bones, so i dont know if i should even ask how common of a drop they are.

would a better idea to make all the bars into throwing knives, sell them + buy d bones?

and lastly, should i just collect zeal at soul wars for prayer? i think i only need like 300 zeal for the prayer i want. i've never done soul wars though so i dont know how long 300 zeal would take to get. i've heard that its one of the fastest way to level combat stats though.

It sounds like you have a nice plan going with the Mining/Smithing.

I personally would mine gold ore using the King Fisher Realm/Magic Whistle method, you'd have to look that up though because I haven't done it in years and don't know how to explain it.

But if you mined gold using the above method and then got smithing gauntlets, and then smelted the gold into gold bars, that'd be good XP.

I don't know how you should do prayer but i definately would not do Soul Wars as it's very crowded, hard to get into games, and 300 Zeal would take 100 games, winning every single one (which is hard to do). (100 Games is 2,000 minutes or about 33.33 hours)

eek, alright i won't worry about soul wars then

but if i did gold instead, how would that help me with my real goal of 71 prayer? i dont particularly care about getting 64 mining/65 smithing, i just have to get them to do temple at sentisten...

well i suppose i could sell the bars duh...hmm. are gold bars profitable enough to get me to 71 prayer from 63 though?

i need like 1,400 d bones at ectofunctus to get 71 prayer i think (w/o any penguin points or more lamps). thats like 7m gold i think (d bones are like 5k?).

thats not really enough gold bars is it? i mean, if it is... thats awesome and i know what im mining for a long long time lol.

No that wouldn't get you near enough for the Dragon Bones, theyre about 5800 gp or so now, I haven't checked recently.

Instead of doing ectofunctus for prayer XP, try using gilded altars. Lots of people (Check w31) have open houses and welcome people to use their gilded altars and they light the candles/whatever for them. It gives more XP and will save you some cash. If you decide to do this though make sure both candles are lit when you offer your Dragon Bones.

As for how to obtain them, I don't really know. Mining/Smithing gold won't get you there so you'll just have to pull out one of your money making methods and go do that.

I just did 63 to 70 with 6350 big bones at guilded altar. It cost me around 4mil and took me maybe 5-6 hours to get to 70. Using d bones it's likt 8mil so i tough i'd save up some cash using big bones but spending more time at the guilded altar.

I might just do like you and get 71 for the curses tough even if i'm still far from having all the skill requirements :(

I heard cremating shades at morton could do it. I don't know if it's fast tough.

Anyway, good luck!

gilded altars are 350% XP
ecto is 400%

altars are alot faster but they actually cost more cause they give less XP ^

(if i recall correctly)

i wish i knew more about the whole raurg bones thing O_o

Gold is really the best way to go for Mining and Smithing, especially if you've got Varrock armour from the diary and Goldsmith Gauntlets from the Family Crest quest. If you don't have both yet, I strongly suggest doing them. Varrock armour gives you a chance to mine 2 ores at once, saving you time and still giving you experience for both ores. And the gauntlets give you double the experience for smelting gold ore.

As for Prayer, I wouldn't bother with Soul Wars either, as has already been advised. I hate buying bones personally and what I did at your level was to just range Baby Blue Dragons. They're easy to kill in the Taverly Dungeon where there's three of them isolated alone and you can just bury their bones. May not seem like much at first but full inventories got me to level 70 quickly enough. After that I did adult Blues and used the Ectofuntus.

Raurg bones are very hard to come by. I mistakenly tried that route too and had to give up. Even though the baby d bones are little experience, you can kill them very quickly and sometimes even two or three at a time, if you're ranging them. It all adds up very fast. At lower levels, it's well worth the effort, and you can save your money for something else.

Um, you can also consider making cannonballs. The experience adds up there too pretty nicely. They always sell well and the only drawback is that it's a little slow.

You could mine the Coal and Iron for Mining experience, then sell both. That would get you about half the cost of the Steel bars. Then smelt them into cannonballs and sell them. Each bar will yield four cannonballs. You'd get a little more back than you paid for the Steel bars.

Experience wise, each cannonball made gives about half what a gold bar does with gauntlets but you make four from each bar so you're actually doubling the total experience made from each process.

ok, let me think for a bit

i dont think i can do the advanced or hard or w/e part of the varrock diary, thats why i haven't done it yet. i do have the gauntlets from family crest though

i was actually going to do baby blues before, but i wanted to get a bone crusher to speed up the process. however, i really dont like doing dungeoneering and getting the points for it seemed like it would take forever.

if i was going to do baby blues id just melee them, i could take my guthans and do it all on one (very very long) trip.

but baby d bones are like 30 xp each. and i need like 400k xp. so id need to kill like 13,334 baby blue dragons lol. thats kind of a lot XD. just did the math, thats like 3.2m xp in atk/str/def...

and ugh, i made cannonballs before, that was so mindlessly boring id rather not subject myself to that again XD. but thanks for the suggestion, but its just not worth it.

Okay, just thought I'd mention them because that's what I did back then and it worked for me. But everything in this game is subjective. You have to find what works for you.

I did the diaries almost as soon as they came out. It was a major incentive for getting most of my skills up. Then I found that that helped tremendously towards having what I needed for doing quests. One hand helps the other. Now that I've done all of the diaries, only two elite tasks from the Ardy one left, and all of the quests except for Nomad, I'm in pretty good shape.

Good luck to you with your goals.

P.S.:

Things always seem like a hell of a lot when you tend to look at them in terms of multiple levels at a time. You're looking at seven Prayer levels there. Of course, 14k+ seems like a lot. To 64 though, it's only 914 Baby Dragon Bones. Killing three at a time with Range, it goes pretty fast. If you set smaller goals, they're easier to attain. Just saying. But again, it's up to you.

I'm looking at about 20k d bones (using Ectofuntus) for 95 Prayer. I do it 500-1k at a time. Then I go do something else. I'll get 99 Range out of it too well before I'm done.

thanks. i hope i didn't seem like i was just scoffing at your suggestions. i dont like to feel like the game is work, which is what making cannonballs feels like to me.

and id like to do the achievement diaries, but im pretty far off in 1 skill to be able to complete most of them (usually its farming, though the rest of my skills/quests are all up to it)
