Player Support Q&A

Hey everyone!

Recently we ran a poll asking you which areas of the company you'd like to hear from for our next video on the RuneScape YouTube Channel. You voted for the Content team first and gave us a huge list of questions to throw at them and their video has been on our RuneScape YouTube Community Channel for a few weeks now. We've also collected your questions for the Graphics team Q&A and they are poring over your questions carefully as we speak and we'll be filming their responses very soon.

While we're hotly anticipating that video, we at Jagex HQ are looking to the future and it's The Player Support team that will be taking your questions in our next video Q&A!

The Player Support team is responsible for all things account related and are the knights in shining armour at Jagex as they help keep your accounts warm and safe when no-one else will, among so many other things!

Briefly, Player Support comprises the following areas:

  • Account Security
  • Offences
  • Investigation teams
  • Billing

We'll be bringing your questions to them in no time at all so now is your chance to ask anything you have ever wanted to ask about the world of player support!

Before you ask about new updates and space hamsters...

To help you help us, there are a couple of points we think are worth considering before posing your question:

  • Shorter questions have a better chance of being asked so if you can avoid a 500 word preamble before your question, that would be great.

  • The video won't be an interrogation so loaded questions that are pretty much rants are less likely to be answered. Afterall, we'd like to be invited back.

  • Remember your questions are being brought to the Player Support Team, so they won't be able to answer any questions about game mechanics or future updates.

  • Any questions relating to a locked, banned or hijacked account will not be answered here or in the Q&A. Please use the regular support channels for this purpose and we'll be happy to help.

Thanks and let's have your questions! ^_^

Edit:

I've just thought of a few questions:

Regarding the forums, why are a lot of moderators - Jmods as well as fmods - so inconsistent?

How are they trained? Some are really incompetent and very unprofessional. And I can name two Jmods who are unprofessional as well.

I'll be looking forward to this Q&A video :).

1: Will Player Support continue to improve their efforts to minimize use of bots and macros in RuneScape?

2: What is Player Support doing in order to improve and encourage players to maintain their account security?

3: How exactly do you determine whether or not a player is actually using bots and/or macros? Feel free to ignore this question if it is confidential information.

4: Will any offers, such as the 7 day trial for free to play players who have never tried members before, be available in the future for existing members?

5: On average, how many accounts does Player Support punish, meaning issue a mute or a ban, daily?

6: Do you have any advice on how to keep a players account safe and secure, besides the information listed in the Safety & Security Guidelines that are already provided?

7: Do the employees in Player Support enjoy their job? Also, what do they think is a necessity in order to become a part of Player Support?

I have no intentions of becoming a part of player support anytime soon, but I'm curious :).

Thanks ^_^!

ok, i thought of some questions ^_^

1: how much in-game offence reports does the Team get, and handle every day?

2: how do you process all the reports? do certain types of reports get a priority over others? like: bug abuse would have a priority over.. let's say, disruptive behavior?

3: do you often use the RuneScape Forums while at work? this be, looking for players in trouble? or do you only use the "Forum Emergencies" and "Forum Help" threads to scout threads?

4: how long does "gathering evidence" take, when investigating an account?

5: can you also catch a bot without an in-game offence report made by a player?

Sounds good to me! Thinking of some now!

1.Why is there a sudden increase in bots?

2.When buying a subscription will there ever be a feature to pay for more than one month at a time? (credit card)

3.How safe are university internet connections for playing Runescape? :P

Thanks!

Sincerely,

What are some things you're planning to do in the future to combat hijacking?

Do offences hurt your chances to become a Player Moderator?

Would you like to see a huge community gathering with everyone there?

Are you going to introduce other account security methods to go along with the bank pin and recovery questions?

Will we be able to have a future player to player offline game inbox?

WIll those who have signed up for the monthly Jagex newsletter can our (censor: messaging account) be used for other alerts upon request?
(comformation about account security, change of bank pin) etc.

Recently I've seen a rise in people saying that they've fallen for the Tetralink scam and I think it's sad people are losing their account to this. Are you going to do something to reduce the problem? e.g. Rename all funorb servers to 'Funorb' if viewed from Runescape, or make private messages only available across Funorb-Runescape if both players have eachother added.

I thought I'd make a shorter version too:

Are you going to do something about the increasingly common Tetralink scam?

Oh I wanna know the answer to Jibby's question too :P
