I created this thread to tell all of the concerned people out there that 2012 is a FAKE... I don't do many threads, so please tell me whether or not you think this thread is adequate.

We've all heard about it. There are many predictions as to why 2012 will be the end of days as we all know it. There are many reasons why people think that December 21, 2012 will be the day that human life ceases to exist. Some of these reasons are:

The End of the Mayan calendar
Immense Solar Flares
Galactic Alignment
Planetary Alignment
Pole Shifting
Planet X
Nibiru (Planet x?)


Let me start with the Mayan Calendar. The Mayan's have a year, just like we do every 365 days. The only difference is that their year lasts a bit longer than ours. Their calendar ends on December 21, 2012, and, just like our calendar, will start over. In short, it ISN'T the end of the calendar, but instead the ending of one "cycle" and the beginning of another. It's like our transition from December 31 to January 1.

Next, many people have talked about solar flares. Sure, some countries may have unstable electrical grids, but rarely do solar flares affect us in a way that would bring major attention to the matter. In fact, every 11 years, solar flares come to a peak in activity and strength. Yes, the next solar peak is scheduled to occur around 2012, however, the strength of these emissions are actually predicted to be much lower than normal, meaning that the sun will do little to no damage to the Earth.

Now, onto galactic alignment. Many people are worried that a galactic alignment will signal some form of doomsday for the Earth. This is a load of crap. Imagine an X-Y coordinate graph. Let's say that the center of the galaxy is at the origin of the graph ((0,0)). Now, imagine the sun is anywhere else on the graph except for (0,0). A line segment can always be made by connecting those two points, meaning that the sun is always in line with the center of the galaxy. Of course, the thought is that the Earth, Sun, and the center of the Milky Way will be in alignment on December 21, 2012. We know that the Sun is always in line with the center of the galaxy. We also [hopefully] know that the Earth revolves around the Sun once every 365 days. This means that twice a year, the Earth, Sun, and the center of the galaxy are in alignment. At one point, the order would be: Earth, Sun, COG (center of galaxy). The second time, the order would be: Sun, Earth, COG. Basically, a galactic alignment has happened twice a year for as long as the Earth and Sun have been around. This has caused no problems before. Therefore, there is no way that a galactic alignment will hurt us in any way.

Up Next, we have planetary alignment. This, for those who don�t know, is when the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune make a perfect line. This is EXTREMELY rare, and the next planetary alignment isn�t until 2040, I do believe. Even IF the planets were to be in alignment, this wouldn�t affect us in any way. The only cosmological bodies that have any effect on us are the Moon and the Sun. Therefore, we can ignore this possibility entirely.

Polar shift: This is ridiculous, it takes an extremely long time for the poles to switch, and this won�t happen on 2012. Even if it did, this wouldn�t threaten our way of living in any way.

Finally, there has been a recent rumor about this Planet X. Whenever I hear about this so called �brown dwarf�, I sigh and roll my eyes. Let�s say, hypothetically, there WAS indeed an enormous asteroid headed toward us. If this were true, scientists would�ve been able to track it long before now. Also, we would be able to see this �killer meteor� with the ***** eye, and, as far as I know, the only pinpoint of light in the sky that noticeably moves is the ISS, or the International Space Station. Planet X, Nibiru, is nothing to worry about.

As many other scientists say, �On December 20, 2012, I�m not going to be stocking up on food. I�m not going to be stocking up on water, or ***ger counters, or medicine. The only thing I�m going to stock up on is some extra Eggnog for the upcoming holiday.�

In other words, there is no reason to freak out. Nothing is going to happen in 2012!

I've seen other people talking about a meteor some time in 2029. The truth is, this meteor is called "Apophis." This is a real asteroid that is expected to make a close encounter with the Earth, but the risk was downgraded to 0 on the Torino Impact Scale. However, there is a very small chance that the meteor will pass through a keyhole near the Earth, redirecting it at us for another encounter in 2036. This, however, is so unlikely, that this was also downgraded to a 0 on the Torino Impact Scale

LMFAO the Mayans SUCKED at predicting cataclismic events. You can ask any Mayan Scholar if the world will end in 2012 and he will laugh in your face... This question was already answered in that mom switch show, where there was a paranoid family that thought the world was gonna end till an actual Mayan scholar showed up to their house and told them not to believe everything you read on the internet...And that goes everyone that believes it will end on 2012...honestly can you people get a better source than the internet?LOL?
