Welcome to my Range Guide. Many people find that Range is a boring skill to train, and that it's not worth it. However, it is one of the best combat skills to train, as you can kill most of the runescape bosses a lot easier, and you can smack a 98 when you reach level 99.

Many people find it boring, as they use the wrong techniques to train it, which give slow experience. With this guide, I hope to show you better ways to train range, and a little bit of information to go with it.

As always with most of my guides, the main part of the guide will be on the second page, with general information on the first page and extra on the third page. If you would like to see some of my other guides, check out the foruth post.

Introduction to Range
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Range is one of the most useful combat skills, however not many people know this, so they don't train it. I see a lot of level 100's with only 60 range, which to be honest is appalling. In my opinion, you should keep your range level at the same level as attack, strength and defence as it is just as useful.

Range is one of the best combat skills not only because it is a powerful skill, but it has one skill that you can't use on melee skills, and that's safe spotting. Safe spotting allows you to stay behind an object and attack a strong monster from a distance, saving food.

Some people say that range is a waste of money. Yes it can be a waste of money, if you just leave the arrows. If you do the Animal Magnetism quest, you don't have to pick the arrows up as the backpack you are given from the quest picks them up for you.

Range is basically taking a bow or crossbow and firing at an enemy. It's as simple as anything.

Ranged Weapons
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
I know that you can look on the knowldge base for information on range weapons, however this will give a more detailed report on the weapons.

There are 5 main types of range weapons. These are:

- (Short/Long) Bows
- Crossbows
- Knives
- Chinchompas
- Darts

There are also 5 other types of range weapon, however they aren't as important as you won't train with them.

Shortbows
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Shortbows are the faster of the two bows, and probably accurate. They are smaller so they weigh less aswell.

The range of shortbows go from a normal shortbow to a magic shortbow, using the main wood types. The magic shortbow is one of the most common bows to be used in training, because it is quick and accurate.

Longbows
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Longbows are similar to shortbows, however they are less accurate, but hit harder.

The range of longbows go from a normal longbow, to the mighty dark bow, which is considered a longbow, as it is quite big. The dark bow isn't amazing for training, however it is great in PvP as they special can hit as high as 49,49.

Crystal Bow
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Even though the crystal bow is big, it isn't considered as a longbow, as it is magical. You don't need any ammunition for a crystal bow, though when it is 1/10 charged, it is about the same as a rune arrow. When it is fully charged you can hit a lot more than with a rune arrow. The crystal bow is from the Rolving Elves quest, and has 2500 shots before you have to recharge it.

Crossbows
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Crossbows are not so good for training, however they are great for fighting higher leveled monsters. This is because they hit high, but aren't very quick.

The crossbow ranges from a normal crossbow to a rune crossbow, with rune being the strongest of them all.

A very special crossbow is the Dorgeshunn Crossbow, also know as the bone crossbow. It fires bolts, which are extremely cheap and are very good to train with.

Knives
¯¯¯¯¯
Knives, in my opinion, are the best training weapon there is for range, as they are quick and accurate. You can normally fire 2 knive shots before one longbow shot.

Knives range from bronze to rune, rune being the best

Chincompas
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Even though chincompas can be a little expensive, they are a very fast method of training range, with the maximum being around 300k an hour.

There are two different types of chincompas; grey and red. Red chincompas are the fastest method of training range, but cost a lot for they're experience.

Darts
¯¯¯¯¯
Darts are similar to knives, as they are just as fast but a little weaker. They range from bronze to dragon, dragon obviously being the best.

Ranged Armour
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
I know that you can find out about the different ranged armour on the knowldge base, however, like the weapons, this will give a bit more detail into them.

Basic Leather
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Basic Leather is the armour you should start range with. It has poor defence, however it does give a good range bonus for the level it can be used at, which is 1. Also, its is all very cheap and the full set costing nothing over 200gp.

Hard Leather
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Heard Leather is the step up from basic leather, and as the name suggests it gives a higher defence bonus, and also giving a higher range bonus. You need level 20 range to wear the coif, and level 10 defence for the body.

Studded Leather
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Studded Leather is a little bit better than hard leather and requires level 20 range to wear. The body again needs level 20 defence to wear.

Snakeskin
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Even though not a lot of people wear snakeskin, it is better than studed leather. Its a bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it for the money. You can always sell it again later. YOu will need 30 range and 30 defence to wear the full set.

Spined
¯¯¯¯¯
Spined is a bit like snakesin, because not a lot of people wear it as it's quite expensive, for it's level. It is however better to wear green dragon hide. You need level 40 range and defence to wear it.

Dragonhide
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Dragonhide is the most common ranged armour found on runescape. Dragonhide gives the best ranged defence for people who can't afford armydal armour or third age, which is a lot of us.

Dragonhide comes in four types; green, blue, red and black, each being better than the last. The ranged level you need for each one goes up in tens, however you only need 40 defence to wear each of the bodies. So for green you need 40 range, and for black you need 70 range.

Karils
¯¯¯¯¯
Karil is the ranged Barrow Brother, and his set is quite good. However, black dragonhide is better, but karil's gives better mage defence. 70 range and 70 defence is needed to wear it.

Ranger Boots
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Ranger boots are the best boots for range bonus, giving +8. They are however expensive at around 15 mil.

Robin Hood Hat
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Robin Hood hat is one of the best helms for ranged bonus, giving +8, however Armydyl and Third Age are better. Again it is expensive at 4 mil.

Archer Ring
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The archer ring, in my opinion, is useful but is also epensive, at 2 mil and gives a +4 range bonus.

Archer Helm
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The archer helm is the most common ranged helmet as its cheap and gives a good bonus.

Armadyl Armour
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Armadyl gives the best ranged defence. It is a very efficent armour to use as it gives great defence bonus, while also giving an amazing ranged bonus.

Void Range
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Void Range is a great armour to wear while training. The full set gives a +10% acuracy and damage to your weapon, so it's great to train with and well worth getting.

Ranged Weapons and Armour for your Level
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Here is a list of the ranged weapons and armour that you should be using at your ranged level.

Notes

- Always use either bronze or iron arrows with a shortbow.
- You can use iron knives over bronze if you want.
- If you have full void, use it against monster that don't hit often.
