Events Workshop & Submissions

If you're looking for advice on how to create and run a really solid event, this is the thread for you. Below you'll find some great advice on what to aim for and what to avoid when it comes to planning and executing a really successful event. Not only that, but we also provide you with our official Event Listing Template (ELT), so you can be sure that every time you list your event's details, you'll have covered all the most important aspects!

When you've got your event all planned and sorted on your own thread in the Events Forum, you can use an official ELT to submit the particulars to us at the end of this thread. We update the listings every Friday, so if you want an event listed for the coming week, please make sure your details are all correct and posted here no later than 23:00 GMT on a Thursday.

We can then check the details out and if we think your event could benefit from some extra attention, it might just be posted on our Featured Events digest and on our official RuneScape Events Twitter feed! If we think your event needs a little extra work, we'll be sure to post some friendly and helpful advice on your event thread so that we can work together towards making your event the best it can be.

The Event Maker's Guide
  • Keep things simple! If your event ends up being complex and hard to follow, people will lose interest. It's often best to pick one fun element to focus on and then try to deliver it in a new and creative way.

  • Keep things focussed! Random parties can be great, but you'll usually hold your audience's attention more effectively if your event is based around a clear theme or activity. Give them something they can really participate in!

  • Consider the location! If your event requires people listening to instructions, you might be best off picking a location that is not going to see lots of strangers passing through and butting in. However, if you want a big audience, go for areas near to where players congregate, but avoid being right on top of them. Otherwise, your event will be lost in the mix!

  • Consider other players! Aim to do things that improve the experience other players have rather than disrupting them. For instance, if your event is going to involve a great deal of group chatter, make sure its not going to spam the screen in busy areas like the GE. Switch to Clan Chat instead!

  • Make sure it's accessible! Make sure you bear in mind any requirements players will need to participate. Does it have wealth, quest, level or clothing requirements? If so, make them clear. It's ok to plan events just for certain groups (different time zones for example), but if you want a bigger audience, go for events with fewer limiting factors.

  • Make sure it's all legal! An obvious one, but don't go making events that involve activities which are against the rules or just plain against the spirit of the game. For instance, if you're planning on organising events based around exploiting mechanics which destroy the challenge of the game (like organising "tie games" etc), then please don't bother. Your thread will be locked on-sight!

  • Keep your details up-to-date! This is crucial - if your plans change, you must make every effort to communicate them to other players. Edit your thread and post in the "Live Alerts" area if you need to. There's nothing worse than looking forward to an event, only to find the time has changed or it's all off. Ultimately, the more you disappoint people, the less likely they'll be to bother with your events next time.

Event Listing Template v1.2

Event: the organiser & event name
Date: the day, date and month
Time: the time in UK/Jagex/Forum time
World: what server you're starting on
Meet: where you're planning to meet
QFC: the QFC of your planning thread

Good luck and we look forward to helping you with your events!

It is an the on-going events list. But I thought I should add each indvidual event to the normal list?

Like, the WFE is an on-going events organiser (last time I checked) but they still add their individual events on the list.

First of all, congratulations on a job well done, Mod Howes! I LOVE the new event forums, and there is no doubt that this will help strength the events community and promote more events in an efficient way. And who could forget about Mod Lorenzo? Thank you for actively supporting the events forum. :D

I recently created BtC (Binding the Community), an on-going events organization. If either of you had a spare moment to look it over and give some feedback, I'd really appreciate it. I'm just wondering if it "fits the bill". :P

Thanks again! ^_^ If you ever need anything, feel free to give me a shout. I'd be more than glad to help.
