In general, with anything in London i'd say; <br> <br>-Plan ahead <br>-Check online and note down the stops/times for buses and trains you'll need online BEFORE the day <br>-Allow time for delays <br>-Take emergency taxi money <br>-Check taxi's are legal and licensed <br>-Avoid dark &amp; shady parks/alleys <img class="sm2" alt=":P" title=":P" src="../../../site/img/blk.gif" />

I've seen programmes before.... tube stations are a great place for people of London to train their theiving level via pick pocketing.... so I'm walking with my hands in my pockets because I'm paranoid about that sort of thing! <br> <br>I'm sure there will be no problems, it's not just London, happens every where, probably not as much as these programmes I've seen before have suggested. <br> <br>As long as you're security conscious anyway, should be no problems! <br> <br>I've been advised to get an Oyster Card for if I'm going to be using the tube.

^ Yeah :/... I was worried to highlight that too much in case it could panic new visitors but i'd say you definately want to 'keep your wits about you' in busy areas. <br> <br>Its suprising how quickly someone can 'brush by' unzipping and emptying your valuables from a hanging bag or pocket<img class="sm5" alt="O_o" title="O_o" src="../../../site/img/blk.gif" />

Put your wallet/purse in your front pockets not you back ones and try to refrain from tapping your pockets to check its there too often. When you do that the theives know where your wallet is and its scarily quick to replace with some folded newspaper the same thickness and you wont even realise its gone until you go to pay for something. <br> <br>:S Sorry to scare people there lol.

Tip #1: For first time visitors. Get one of those pocket folding maps. They cost about <20>2 from the little machines in the tube station and they are really useful. They not only have a little original tube map inside that (the one that looks like a circuit board) but also a folding open large map of london with the underground overlayed on top so you can see exactly which station is closest to your destination. This is useful because the tube map can be a bit misleading at times with some stations looking closer or furthar away than they really are. <br> <br>Tip #2: Dont waste a tube fare going from Covent garden to Leicester Square, its faster to walk. <br> <br>Tip #3: Dont use the stairs. It might not seem that many when they warn you but its a leg killer because a lot of them are spiral and you are twisting a lot. Unless its really really busy just wait for the lift (elevator for our american chums). <br> <br>Tip #4: Use the tube planner on the TFL website to work out approximate times between stations. Some journeys can take quite a long time. <br> <br>Tip #5: Always read the line closures/delays signs at the station or preferably in advance of your journey incase you need to go a different route. There are usually line closure and maintenance at weekends especially on a sunday so signup to the alerts on the TFL website.
