7637c0313e llvm-dwarfdump: Add support for dumping the .debug_loc section
This is a basic implementation - we still don't have any support (that I
know of) for dumping DWARF expressions in a meaningful way, so the
location information itself is just printed as a sequence of bytes as we
do elsewhere.

af68c9e26b [yaml2obj][ELF] Don't monkeypatch the YAML sections.
Previously, we would monkeypatch the vector of YAML::Section's in order
to ensure that the SHT_NULL entry is present. Now we just add it

The proliferation of small numerical adjustments is beginning to
frighten me, but I can't think of a way having a single point of truth
for them without introducing a whole new layer of data structures (i.e.
lots of code and complexity) between the YAML and binary ELF formats.

034418b820 [yaml2obj][ELF] Refer specifically to the section header string table.
A bug in libObject will cause it to assert() if a symbol table's string
table and the section header string table are the same section, so we
need to ensure that we emit two different string tables (among other
things). The problematic code is the hardcoded usage of ".strtab"
(`dot_strtab_sec`) for looking up symbol names in
ELFObjectFile<ELFT>::getSymbolName.

I discussed this with Michael, and he has some local improvements to the
ELF code in libObject that, among other things, should fix our handling
of this scenario.

5a0f79505b [yaml2obj][ELF] Ensure more fields are zero'd.
I was spotting garbage in the output. I'd like to just zero the entire

trying to avoid bloating the ELFYAML::Foo classes with a bunch of
constructor code).

daa7f712a2 Remove the LLVM specific archive index.
Archive files (.a) can have a symbol table indicating which object
files in them define which symbols. The purpose of this symbol table
is to speed up linking by allowing the linker the read only the .o
files it is actually going to use instead of having to parse every
object's symbol table.

LLVM's archive library currently supports a LLVM specific format for
such table. It is hard to see any value in that now that llvm-ld is
gone:

* System linkers don't use it: GNU ar uses the same plugin as the
linker to create archive files with a regular index. The OS X ar
creates no symbol table for IL files, I assume the linker just parses
all IL files.

* It doesn't interact well with archives having both IL and native objects.

* We probably don't want to be responsible for yet another archive
format variant.

This patch then:

* Removes support for creating and reading such index from lib/Archive.
* Remove llvm-ranlib, since there is nothing left for it to do.

We should in the future add support for regular indexes to llvm-ar for
both native and IL objects. When we do that, llvm-ranlib should be
reimplemented as a symlink to llvm-ar, as it is equivalent to "ar s".

eedbfb8aab MC: Disassembled CFG reconstruction.
This patch builds on some existing code to do CFG reconstruction from
a disassembled binary:
- MCModule represents the binary, and has a list of MCAtoms.
- MCAtom represents either disassembled instructions (MCTextAtom), or
contiguous data (MCDataAtom), and covers a specific range of addresses.
- MCBasicBlock and MCFunction form the reconstructed CFG. An MCBB is
backed by an MCTextAtom, and has the usual successors/predecessors.
- MCObjectDisassembler creates a module from an ObjectFile using a
disassembler. It first builds an atom for each section. It can also
construct the CFG, and this splits the text atoms into basic blocks.

MCModule and MCAtom were only sketched out; MCFunction and MCBB were
implemented under the experimental "-cfg" llvm-objdump -macho option.
This cleans them up for further use; llvm-objdump -d -cfg now generates
graphviz files for each function found in the binary.

In the future, MCObjectDisassembler may be the right place to do
"intelligent" disassembly: for example, handling constant islands is just
a matter of splitting the atom, using information that may be available
in the ObjectFile. Also, better initial atom formation than just using
sections is possible using symbols (and things like Mach-O's
function_starts load command).

This brings two minor regressions in llvm-objdump -macho -cfg:
- The printing of a relocation's referenced symbol.
- An annotation on loop BBs, i.e., which are their own successor.

Relocation printing is replaced by the MCSymbolizer; the basic CFG
annotation will be superseded by more related functionality.

6979d48fa4 Add MCSymbolizer for symbolic/annotated disassembly.
This is a basic first step towards symbolization of disassembled
instructions. This used to be done using externally provided (C API)
callbacks. This patch introduces:
- the MCSymbolizer class, that mimics the same functions that were used
in the X86 and ARM disassemblers to symbolize immediate operands and
to annotate loads based off PC (for things like c string literals).
- the MCExternalSymbolizer class, which implements the old C API.
- the MCRelocationInfo class, which provides a way for targets to
translate relocations (either object::RelocationRef, or disassembler
  C API VariantKinds) to MCExprs.
- the MCObjectSymbolizer class, which does symbolization using what it
finds in an object::ObjectFile. This makes simple symbolization (with
no fancy relocation stuff) work for all object formats!
- x86-64 Mach-O and ELF MCRelocationInfos.
- A basic ARM Mach-O MCRelocationInfo, that provides just enough to
  support the C API VariantKinds.

Most of what works in otool (the only user of the old symbolization API
that I know of) for x86-64 symbolic disassembly (-tvV) works, namely:
- symbol references: call _foo; jmp 15 <_foo+50>
- relocations: call _foo-_bar; call _foo-4
- __cf?string: leaq 193(%rip), %rax ## literal pool for "hello"
Stub support is the main missing part (because libObject doesn't know,
among other things, about mach-o indirect symbols).

As for the MCSymbolizer API, instead of relying on the disassemblers
to call the tryAdding* methods, maybe this could be done automagically
using InstrInfo? For instance, even though PC-relative LEAs are used
to get the address of string literals in a typical Mach-O file, a MOV
would be used in an ELF file. And right now, the explicit symbolization
only recognizes PC-relative LEAs. InstrInfo should have already have
most of what is needed to know what to symbolize, so this can
definitely be improved.

I'd also like to remove object::RelocationRef::getValueString (it seems
only used by relocation printing in objdump), as simply printing the
created MCExpr is definitely enough (and cleaner than string concats).

898763a097 Use only explicit bool conversion operators
BitVector/SmallBitVector::reference::operator bool remain implicit since
they model more exactly a bool, rather than something else that can be
boolean tested.

The most common (non-buggy) case are where such objects are used as
return expressions in bool-returning functions or as boolean function
arguments. In those cases I've used (& added if necessary) a named
function to provide the equivalent (or sometimes negative, depending on
convenient wording) test.

One behavior change (YAMLParser) was made, though no test case is
included as I'm not sure how to reach that code path. Essentially any
comparison of llvm::yaml::document_iterators would be invalid if neither
iterator was at the end.

This helped uncover a couple of bugs in Clang - test cases provided for
those in a separate commit along with similar changes to `operator bool`
instances in Clang.

585f35b5a0 SectionMemoryManager shouldn't be a JITMemoryManager. Previously, the
EngineBuilder interface required a JITMemoryManager even if it was being used
to construct an MCJIT. But the MCJIT actually wants a RTDyldMemoryManager.
Consequently, the SectionMemoryManager, which is meant for MCJIT, derived
from the JITMemoryManager and then stubbed out a bunch of JITMemoryManager
methods that weren't relevant to the MCJIT.

This patch fixes the situation: it teaches the EngineBuilder that
RTDyldMemoryManager is a supertype of JITMemoryManager, and that it's
appropriate to pass a RTDyldMemoryManager instead of a JITMemoryManager if
we're using the MCJIT. This allows us to remove the stub methods from
SectionMemoryManager, and make SectionMemoryManager a direct subtype of
RTDyldMemoryManager.

adb8197635 Use llvm/Object/MachO.h in macho-dumper. Drop the old macho parser.
For Mach-O there were 2 implementations for parsing object files. A
standalone llvm/Object/MachOObject.h and llvm/Object/MachO.h which
implements the generic interface in llvm/Object/ObjectFile.h.

This patch adds the missing features to MachO.h, moves macho-dump to
use MachO.h and removes ObjectFile.h.

In addition to making sure that check-all is clean, I checked that the
new version produces exactly the same output in all Mach-O files in a
llvm+clang build directory (including executables and shared
libraries).

To test the performance, I ran macho-dump over all the files in a
llvm+clang build directory again, but this time redirecting the output
to /dev/null. Both the old and new versions take about 4.6 seconds

aeaa3e25f8 Don't define our own global 'endl' variable. While technically it had
internal linkage and so wasn't a patent bug, it doesn't make any sense
here. We can avoid even calling operator<< by just embedding the newline
in the string literals that were already being streamed out. It also
gives the impression of some line-ending agnosticisms which is not
present, and that flushing happens when it doesn't.

If we want to use std::endl, we could do that, but honestly it doesn't
seem remotely worth it. Using '\n' directly is much more clear when
working with raw_ostream.

It also happens to fix builds with old crufty GCC STL implementations
that include std::endl into the global namespace (or headers written to
be compatible with such atrocities).

df46cef31b Implements low-level object file format specific output for COFF and
ELF with support for:

- File headers
- Section headers + data
- Relocations
- Symbols
- Unwind data (only COFF/Win64)

The output format follows a few rules:
- Values are almost always output one per line (as elf-dump/coff-dump already do). - Many values are translated to something readable (like enum names), with the raw value in parentheses.
- Hex numbers are output in uppercase, prefixed with "0x".
- Flags are sorted alphabetically.
- Lists and groups are always delimited.

Example output:
---------- snip ----------
Sections [
  Section {
    Index: 1
    Name: .text (5)
    Type: SHT_PROGBITS (0x1)
    Flags [ (0x6)
      SHF_ALLOC (0x2)
      SHF_EXECINSTR (0x4)
    ]
    Address: 0x0
    Offset: 0x40
    Size: 33
    Link: 0
    Info: 0
    AddressAlignment: 16
    EntrySize: 0
    Relocations [
      0x6 R_386_32 .rodata.str1.1 0x0
      0xB R_386_PC32 puts 0x0
      0x12 R_386_32 .rodata.str1.1 0x0
      0x17 R_386_PC32 puts 0x0
    ]
    SectionData (
      0000: 83EC04C7 04240000 0000E8FC FFFFFFC7 |.....$..........|
      0010: 04240600 0000E8FC FFFFFF31 C083C404 |.$.........1....|
      0020: C3 |.|
    )
  }
]
---------- snip ----------

Relocations and symbols can be output standalone or together with the section header as displayed in the example.
This feature set supports all tests in test/MC/COFF and test/MC/ELF (and I suspect all additional tests using elf-dump), making elf-dump and coff-dump deprecated.

5bf5043e5b Split out the IRReader header and the utility functions it provides into
its own library. These functions are bridging between the bitcode reader
and the ll parser which are in different libraries. Previously we didn't
have any good library to do this, and instead played fast and loose with
a "header only" set of interfaces in the Support library. This really
doesn't work well as evidenced by the recent attempt to add timing logic
to the these routines.

As part of this, make them normal functions rather than weird inline
functions, and sink the implementation into the library. Also clean up
the header to be nice and minimal.

This requires updating lots of build system dependencies to specify that
the IRReader library is needed, and several source files to not
implicitly rely upon the header file to transitively include all manner
of other headers.

If you are using IRReader.h, this commit will break you (the header
moved) and you'll need to also update your library usage to include
'irreader'. I will commit the corresponding change to Clang momentarily.

b503b08daa Make LTO codegen use a PassManager, rather than a FunctionPassManager, for the
codegen passes. This brings it in to line with clang and llc's codegen setup,

If I understand correctly, adding ModulePasses to a FunctionPassManager is
bogus. It only seems to explode if an added ModulePass depends on a
FunctionPass though, which might be why this code has survived so long.

0c74d78ebf Give the MCStreamer class hierarchy LLVM RTTI facilities for use with
isa<> and dyn_cast<>. In several places, code is already hacking around
the absence of this, and there seem to be several interfaces that might
be lifted and/or devirtualized using this.

This change was based on a discussion with Jim Grosbach about how best
to handle testing for specific MCStreamer subclasses. He said that this
was the correct end state, and everything else was too hacky so
I decided to just make it so.

No functionality should be changed here, this is just threading the kind
through all the constructors and setting up the classof overloads.

2e875dfb6d We want the dwarf AT_producer for assembly source files to match clang's

which version of the compiler was used.

This is the first of two steps to allow us to do that. This is the llvm-mc
change to provide a method to set the AT_producer string. The second step,
coming soon to a clang near you, will have the clang driver pass the value
of getClangFullVersion() via an flag when invoking the integrated assembler

5f190b5e4e Introduce llvm::sys::getProcessTriple() function.
In r143502, we renamed getHostTriple() to getDefaultTargetTriple()
as part of work to allow the user to supply a different default
target triple at configure time. This change also affected the JIT.
However, it is inappropriate to use the default target triple in the
JIT in most circumstances because this will not necessarily match
the current architecture used by the process, leading to illegal
instruction and other such errors at run time.

Introduce the getProcessTriple() function for use in the JIT and
its clients, and cause the JIT to use it. On architectures with a
single bitness, the host and process triples are identical. On other
architectures, the host triple represents the architecture of the
host CPU, while the process triple represents the architecture used
by the host CPU to interpret machine code within the current process.
For example, when executing 32-bit code on a 64-bit Linux machine,
the host triple may be 'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu', while the process
triple may be 'i386-unknown-linux-gnu'.

This fixes JIT for the 32-on-64-bit (and vice versa) build on non-Apple
platforms.

abe1a77c03 Expose an InitToTextSection through MCStreamer.
The aim of this patch is to fix the following piece of code in the
platform-independent AsmParser:

void AsmParser::CheckForValidSection() {
  if (!ParsingInlineAsm && !getStreamer().getCurrentSection()) {
    TokError("expected section directive before assembly directive");
    Out.SwitchSection(Ctx.getMachOSection(
                        "__TEXT", "__text",
                        MCSectionMachO::S_ATTR_PURE_INSTRUCTIONS,
                        0, SectionKind::getText()));
  }
}

This was added for the "-n" option of llvm-mc.

The proposed fix adds another virtual method to MCStreamer, called
InitToTextSection. Conceptually, it's similar to the existing
InitSections which initializes all common sections and switches to
text. The new method is implemented by each platform streamer in a way
that it sees fit. So AsmParser can now do this:

void AsmParser::CheckForValidSection() {
  if (!ParsingInlineAsm && !getStreamer().getCurrentSection()) {
    TokError("expected section directive before assembly directive");
    Out.InitToTextSection();
  }
}

Which is much more reasonable.

30bd563e01 Switch TargetTransformInfo from an immutable analysis pass that requires
a TargetMachine to construct (and thus isn't always available), to an
analysis group that supports layered implementations much like
AliasAnalysis does. This is a pretty massive change, with a few parts
that I was unable to easily separate (sorry), so I'll walk through it.

The first step of this conversion was to make TargetTransformInfo an
analysis group, and to sink the nonce implementations in
ScalarTargetTransformInfo and VectorTargetTranformInfo into
a NoTargetTransformInfo pass. This allows other passes to add a hard
requirement on TTI, and assume they will always get at least on
implementation.

The TargetTransformInfo analysis group leverages the delegation chaining
trick that AliasAnalysis uses, where the base class for the analysis
group delegates to the previous analysis *pass*, allowing all but tho
NoFoo analysis passes to only implement the parts of the interfaces they
support. It also introduces a new trick where each pass in the group
retains a pointer to the top-most pass that has been initialized. This
allows passes to implement one API in terms of another API and benefit
when some other pass above them in the stack has more precise results
for the second API.

The second step of this conversion is to create a pass that implements
the TargetTransformInfo analysis using the target-independent
abstractions in the code generator. This replaces the
ScalarTargetTransformImpl and VectorTargetTransformImpl classes in
lib/Target with a single pass in lib/CodeGen called
BasicTargetTransformInfo. This class actually provides most of the TTI
functionality, basing it upon the TargetLowering abstraction and other
information in the target independent code generator.

The third step of the conversion adds support to all TargetMachines to
register custom analysis passes. This allows building those passes with
access to TargetLowering or other target-specific classes, and it also
allows each target to customize the set of analysis passes desired in
the pass manager. The baseline LLVMTargetMachine implements this
interface to add the BasicTTI pass to the pass manager, and all of the
tools that want to support target-aware TTI passes call this routine on
whatever target machine they end up with to add the appropriate passes.

The fourth step of the conversion created target-specific TTI analysis
passes for the X86 and ARM backends. These passes contain the custom
logic that was previously in their extensions of the
ScalarTargetTransformInfo and VectorTargetTransformInfo interfaces.
I separated them into their own file, as now all of the interface bits
are private and they just expose a function to create the pass itself.
Then I extended these target machines to set up a custom set of analysis
passes, first adding BasicTTI as a fallback, and then adding their
customized TTI implementations.

The fourth step required logic that was shared between the target
independent layer and the specific targets to move to a different
interface, as they no longer derive from each other. As a consequence,
a helper functions were added to TargetLowering representing the common
logic needed both in the target implementation and the codegen
implementation of the TTI pass. While technically this is the only
change that could have been committed separately, it would have been
a nightmare to extract.

The final step of the conversion was just to delete all the old
boilerplate. This got rid of the ScalarTargetTransformInfo and
VectorTargetTransformInfo classes, all of the support in all of the
targets for producing instances of them, and all of the support in the
tools for manually constructing a pass based around them.

Now that TTI is a relatively normal analysis group, two things become
straightforward. First, we can sink it into lib/Analysis which is a more
natural layer for it to live. Second, clients of this interface can
depend on it *always* being available which will simplify their code and
behavior. These (and other) simplifications will follow in subsequent
commits, this one is clearly big enough.

Finally, I'm very aware that much of the comments and documentation
needs to be updated. As soon as I had this working, and plausibly well
commented, I wanted to get it committed and in front of the build bots.
I'll be doing a few passes over documentation later if it sticks.

Commits to update DragonEgg and Clang will be made presently.

43148d2e6e Convert the TargetTransformInfo from an immutable pass with dynamic
interfaces which could be extracted from it, and must be provided on
construction, to a chained analysis group.

The end goal here is that TTI works much like AA -- there is a baseline
"no-op" and target independent pass which is in the group, and each
target can expose a target-specific pass in the group. These passes will
naturally chain allowing each target-specific pass to delegate to the
generic pass as needed.

In particular, this will allow a much simpler interface for passes that
would like to use TTI -- they can have a hard dependency on TTI and it
will just be satisfied by the stub implementation when that is all that
is available.

This patch is a WIP however. In particular, the "stub" pass is actually
the one and only pass, and everything there is implemented by delegating
to the target-provided interfaces. As a consequence the tools still have
to explicitly construct the pass. Switching targets to provide custom
passes and sinking the stub behavior into the NoTTI pass is the next
step.

4c1f3c24db Move all of the header files which are involved in modelling the LLVM IR
into their new header subdirectory: include/llvm/IR. This matches the
directory structure of lib, and begins to correct a long standing point
of file layout clutter in LLVM.

There are still more header files to move here, but I wanted to handle
them in separate commits to make tracking what files make sense at each
layer easier.

The only really questionable files here are the target intrinsic
tablegen files. But that's a battle I'd rather not fight today.

I've updated both CMake and Makefile build systems (I think, and my
tests think, but I may have missed something).

I've also re-sorted the includes throughout the project. I'll be
committing updates to Clang, DragonEgg, and Polly momentarily.

cca2985848 Add a function to get the segment name of a section.
On MachO, sections also have segment names. When a tool looking at a .o file
prints a segment name, this is what they mean. In reality, a .o has only one
anonymous, segment.

This patch adds a MachO only function to fetch that segment name. I named it
getSectionFinalSegmentName since the main use for the name seems to be inform
the linker with segment this section should go to.

The patch also changes MachOObjectFile::getSectionName to return just the
section name instead of computing SegmentName,SectionName.

The main difference from the previous patch is that it doesn't use
InMemoryStruct. It is extremely dangerous: if the endians match it returns
a pointer to the file buffer, if not, it returns a pointer to an internal buffer
that is overwritten in the next API call.

We should change all of this code to use
support::detail::packed_endian_specific_integral like ELF, but since these
functions only handle strings, they work with big and little endian machines
as is.

I have tested this by installing ubuntu 12.10 ppc on qemu, that is why it took
so long :-)

7ee48929d5 This patch is needed to make c++ exceptions work for mips16.
Mips16 is really a processor decoding mode (ala thumb 1) and in the same
program, mips16 and mips32 functions can exist and can call each other.

If a jal type instruction encounters an address with the lower bit set, then
the processor switches to mips16 mode (if it is not already in it). If the
lower bit is not set, then it switches to mips32 mode.

The linker knows which functions are mips16 and which are mips32.
When relocation is performed on code labels, this lower order bit is
set if the code label is a mips16 code label.

In general this works just fine, however when creating exception handling
tables and dwarf, there are cases where you don't want this lower order
bit added in.

This has been traditionally distinguished in gas assembly source by using a
different syntax for the label.

lab1: ; this will cause the lower order bit to be added
lab2=. ; this will not cause the lower order bit to be added

In some cases, it does not matter because in dwarf and debug tables
the difference of two labels is used and in that case the lower order
bits subtract each other out.

To fix this, I have added to mcstreamer the notion of a debuglabel.
The default is for label and debug label to be the same. So calling
EmitLabel and EmitDebugLabel produce the same result.

For various reasons, there is only one set of labels that needs to be
modified for the mips exceptions to work. These are the "$eh_func_beginXXX"
labels.

Mips overrides the debug label suffix from ":" to "=." .

This initial patch fixes exceptions. More changes most likely
will be needed to DwarfCFException to make all of this work
for actual debugging. These changes will be to emit debug labels in some
places where a simple label is emitted now.

6026bd1239 Add the `lto_codegen_set_export_dynamic' function.
This function sets the `_exportDynamic' ivar. When that's set, we export all
symbols (e.g. we don't run the internalize pass). This is equivalent to the
`--export-dynamic' linker flag in GNU land:

--export-dynamic
When creating a dynamically linked executable, add all symbols to the dynamic
symbol table. The dynamic symbol table is the set of symbols which are visible
from dynamic objects at run time. If you do not use this option, the dynamic
symbol table will normally contain only those symbols which are referenced by
some dynamic object mentioned in the link. If you use dlopen to load a dynamic
object which needs to refer back to the symbols defined by the program, rather
than some other dynamic object, then you will probably need to use this option
  when linking the program itself.

The Darwin linker will support this via the `-export_dynamic' flag. We should
modify clang to support this via the `-rdynamic' flag.

through libMCDisassembler but that's a gross layering violation, the MC layer
can't pull in functions from the targets. Adding a function to libLTO is a bit
of a hack but not worse than exposing other disassembler bits from libLTO.

Fixes PR14362.

0c5276155d Add a -disable-cfi option to llvm-mc. This is useful for debugging as
it will expand any .cfi_* directives in the input assembly.

Unfortunately this cannot replace elf-dump in tests as the asm streamer
cannot relax the line advance opcodes.
