Summary: nullptr can implicitly convert to Twine as Twine(nullptr) in which case it resolves to Twine(const char *). This constructor derefs the pointer and therefore doesn't work. Add a Twine(std::nullptr_t) = delete to make it a compile time error. It turns out that in-tree usage of Twine(nullptr) is confined to a single private method in IRBuilder where foldConstant(... const Twine &Name = nullptr) and this method is only ever called with an explicit Name argument as making it a mandatory argument doesn't cause compile-time or run-time errors. The LLVM Compiler Infrastructure ================================ This directory and its subdirectories contain source code for LLVM, a toolkit for the construction of highly optimized compilers, optimizers, and runtime environments. LLVM is open source software. You may freely distribute it under the terms of the license agreement found in LICENSE.txt. Please see the documentation provided in docs/ for further assistance with LLVM, and in particular docs/GettingStarted.rst for getting started with LLVM and docs/README.txt for an overview of LLVM's documentation setup. If you are writing a package for LLVM, see docs/Packaging.rst for our suggestions.
