Tools/Compiler Developer

Jagex Ltd, the UK's leading independent online games studio, is looking for experienced tools programmers, who want to work with cutting-edge technology, to join our Core Technologies department. You would be working with our code libraries, game engine and bespoke tool chain.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to join a fast-paced, rapidly-expanding games company based in Cambridge, and help us to achieve our ambitious goals for 2010 and beyond.

Key Duties Include:

• Developing and maintaining our radical new web development toolset
• Working on cutting-edge, in-house tools, languages and systems that give the studio its competitive advantage
• Researching and developing our advanced technologies, platforms and ideas to give better gameplay to our players and performance efficiencies to our staff
• Providing support to the users of our in-house tools and platforms
• Supporting the production of in-house platform documentation

Essential Requirements:

• Excellent working knowledge of Java
• Industry experience of compiler development
• Strong understanding/appreciation of code design philosophies and an interest in software language design
• Good industry track record, which may include previously published products or tools development experience
• Strong academic background at degree level or equivalent
• The ability to think creatively to solve problems

Desirable Requirements:

• Previous experience of working in the games industry would be a big plus
