the 1-and-2 shit is so i can easily output to both the ep1 and ep2 mod folders. there are multiple approaches to the problem of two mods sharing one project and this is just one of them.
this bug happens because when most NPCs die, their body is replaced with a ragdoll, but the NPC entity isn't deleted immediately. it is invisible for a short while for whatever reasons the game has. this explains why they would be invisible upon reloading
