ca9f0aa0e4 Reland "[IR] Make AttributeSetNode public, avoid temporary AttributeList copies"
This re-lands r299875.

I introduced a bug in Clang code responsible for replacing K&R, no
prototype declarations with a real function definition with a prototype.
The bug was here:

       // Collect any return attributes from the call.

  -      newAttrs.push_back(llvm::AttributeList::get(newFn->getContext(),
  -                                                  oldAttrs.getRetAttributes()));
  +    newAttrs.push_back(oldAttrs.getRetAttributes());

Previously getRetAttributes() carried AttributeList::ReturnIndex in its
AttributeList. Now that we return the AttributeSetNode* directly, it no
longer carries that index, and we call this overload with a single node:
  AttributeList::get(LLVMContext&, ArrayRef<AttributeSetNode*>)

That aborted with an assertion on x86_32 targets. I added an explicit
triple to the test and added CHECKs to help find issues like this in the
future sooner.

204d4c1d7b Allow DataLayout to specify addrspace for allocas.
LLVM makes several assumptions about address space 0. However,
alloca is presently constrained to always return this address space.
There's no real way to avoid using alloca, so without this
there is no way to opt out of these assumptions.

The problematic assumptions include:
- That the pointer size used for the stack is the same size as
  the code size pointer, which is also the maximum sized pointer.

- That 0 is an invalid, non-dereferencable pointer value.

These are problems for AMDGPU because alloca is used to
implement the private address space, which uses a 32-bit
index as the pointer value. Other pointers are 64-bit
and behave more like LLVM's notion of generic address
space. By changing the address space used for allocas,
we can change our generic pointer type to be LLVM's generic
pointer type which does have similar properties.

160bf2d2db [IR] Make AttributeSetNode public, avoid temporary AttributeList copies
Summary:
AttributeList::get(Fn|Ret|Param)Attributes no longer creates a temporary
AttributeList just to hide the AttributeSetNode type.

I've also added a factory method to create AttributeLists from a
parallel array of AttributeSetNodes. I think this simplifies
construction of AttributeLists when rewriting function prototypes.
Previously we would test if a particular index had attributes, and
conditionally add a temporary attribute list to a vector. Now the
attribute set vector is parallel to the argument vector already that
these passes already construct.

My long term vision is to wrap AttributeSetNode* inside an AttributeSet
type that holds the enum attributes, but that will come in a follow up
change.

I haven't done any performance measurements for this change because
profiling hasn't shown that any of the affected code is hot.

fc06818ec6 Turn some C-style vararg into variadic templates
Module::getOrInsertFunction is using C-style vararg instead of
variadic templates.

From a user prospective, it forces the use of an annoying nullptr
to mark the end of the vararg, and there's not type checking on the
arguments. The variadic template is an obvious solution to both
issues.

58516608f0 [IR] Share implementation of pairs of const and non-const methods in BasicBlock using the const version instead of the non-const version
Summary:
During post-commit review of a previous change I made it was pointed out that const casting 'this' is technically a bad practice. This patch re-implements all of the methods in BasicBlock that do this to use the const BasicBlock version and const_cast the return value instead.

I think there are still many other classes that do similar things. I may look at more in the future.

9469fd1dfc [IR] Make SwitchInst::CaseIt almost a normal iterator.
This moves it to the iterator facade utilities giving it full random
access semantics, etc. It can also now be used with standard algorithms
like std::all_of and std::any_of and range adaptors like llvm::reverse.

Also make the semantics of iterating match what every other iterator
uses and forbid decrementing past the begin iterator. This was used as
a hacky way to work around iterator invalidation. However, every
instance trying to do this failed to actually avoid touching invalid
iterators despite the clear documentation that the removed and all
subsequent iterators become invalid including the end iterator. So I've
added a return of the next iterator to removeCase and rewritten the
loops that were doing this to correctly follow the iterator pattern of
either incremneting or removing and assigning fresh values to the
iterator and the end.

In one case we were trying to go backwards to make this cleaner but it
doesn't actually work. I've made that code match the code we use
everywhere else to remove cases as we iterate. This changes the order of
cases in one test output and I moved that test to CHECK-DAG so it
wouldn't care -- the order isn't semantically meaningful anyways.

StructurizeCFG can't handle cases with multiple
returns creating regions with multiple exits.
Create a copy of UnifyFunctionExitNodes that only
unifies exit nodes that skips exit nodes
with uniform branch sources.

f1a870d05f [IR] Use a binary search in DataLayout::getAlignmentInfo
Summary:
We currently do a linear scan through all of the Alignments array entries anytime getAlignmentInfo is called. I noticed while profiling compile time on a -O2 opt run that this function can be called quite frequently and was showing about as about 1% of the time in callgrind.

This patch puts the Alignments array into a sorted order by type and then by bitwidth. We can then do a binary search. And use the sorted nature to handle the special cases for INTEGER_ALIGN. Some of this is modeled after the sorting/searching we do for pointers already.

This reduced the time spent in this routine by about 2/3 in the one compilation I was looking at.

We could maybe improve this more by using a DenseMap to cache the results, but just sorting was easy and didn't require extra data structure. And I think it made the integer handling simpler.

27d17d1713 Rename AttributeSet to AttributeList
Summary:
This class is a list of AttributeSetNodes corresponding the function
prototype of a call or function declaration. This class used to be
called ParamAttrListPtr, then AttrListPtr, then AttributeSet. It is
typically accessed by parameter and return value index, so
"AttributeList" seems like a more intuitive name.

Rename AttributeSetImpl to AttributeListImpl to follow suit.

It's useful to rename this class so that we can rename AttributeSetNode
to AttributeSet later. AttributeSet is the set of attributes that apply
to a single function, argument, or return value.

978da1ce40 [ConstantRange] Add setSizeSmallerThanOf method.
Summary:
ConstantRange class currently has a method getSetSize, which is mostly used to
compare set sizes of two constant ranges (there is only one spot where it's used
in a slightly different scenario). This patch introduces setSizeSmallerThanOf
method, which does such comparison in a more efficient way. In the original
method we have to extend our types to (BitWidth+1), which can result it using
slow case of APInt, extra memory allocations, etc.

The change is supposed to not change any functionality, but it slightly improves
compile time. Here is compile time improvements that I observed on CTMark:
* tramp3d-v4	-2.02%
* pairlocalalign	-1.82%
* lencod	-1.67%

1d01050ac2 Add !associated metadata.
This is an ELF-specific thing that adds SHF_LINK_ORDER to the global's section
pointing to the metadata argument's section. The effect of that is a reverse dependency
between sections for the linker GC.

!associated does not change the behavior of global-dce. The global
may also need to be added to llvm.compiler.used.

Since SHF_LINK_ORDER is per-section, !associated effectively enables
fdata-sections for the affected globals, the same as comdats do.

f64359e67f AMDGPU: Cleanup control flow intrinsics
Move backend internal intrinsics along with the rest of the
normal intrinsics, and use the Intrinsic::getDeclaration
API instead of manually constructing the type list.

It's surprising this was working before. fdiv.fast had
the wrong number of parameters. The control flow intrinsic
declaration attributes were not being applied, and
their types were inconsistent. The actual IR use types
did not match the declaration, and were closer to the
types used for the patterns. The brcond lowering
was changing the types, so introduce new nodes for those.

975ed7f2e5 Store Arguments in a flat array instead of an iplist
This saves two pointers from Argument and eliminates some extra
allocations.

Arguments cannot be inserted or removed from a Function because that
would require changing its Type, which LLVM does not allow. Instead,
passes that change prototypes, like DeadArgElim, create a new Function
and copy over argument names and attributes. The primary benefit of
iplist is O(1) random insertion and removal. We just don't need that for
arguments, so don't use it.

2044784c9b Remove getArgumentList() in favor of arg_begin(), args(), etc
Users often call getArgumentList().size(), which is a linear way to get
the number of function arguments. arg_size(), on the other hand, is
constant time.

In general, the fact that arguments are stored in an iplist is an
implementation detail, so I've removed it from the Function interface
and moved all other users to the argument container APIs (arg_begin(),
arg_end(), args(), arg_size()).

41e307812a Remove dead F parameter from Argument constructor
When Function creates its argument list, it does the ilist push_back
itself. No other caller passes in a parent function, so this is dead,
and it uses the soon-to-be-deleted getArgumentList accessor.

90236df3aa Make Argument::getArgNo() constant time, not O(#args)
getArgNo is actually hot in LLVM, because its how we check for
attributes on arguments:

          hasAttribute(getArgNo()+1, Attribute::NonNull))
      return true;

It actually shows up as the 23rd hottest leaf function in a 13s sample
of LTO of llc.

This grows Argument by four bytes, but I have another pending patch to
shrink it by removing its ilist_node base.

e96622fef1 [IR] Inline some Function accessors
I checked that all of these out-of-line methods previously compiled to
simple loads and bittests, so they are pretty good candidates for
inlining. In particular, arg_size() and arg_empty() are popular and are
just two loads, so they seem worth inlining.

55d461dd66 SamplePGO ThinLTO ICP fix for local functions.
Summary:
In SamplePGO, if the profile is collected from non-LTO binary, and used to drive ThinLTO, the indirect call promotion may fail because ThinLTO adjusts local function names to avoid conflicts. There are two places of where the mismatch can happen:

1. thin-link prepends SourceFileName to front of FuncName to build the GUID (GlobalValue::getGlobalIdentifier). Unlike instrumentation FDO, SamplePGO does not use the PGOFuncName scheme and therefore the indirect call target profile data contains a hash of the OriginalName.
2. backend compiler promotes some local functions to global and appends .llvm.{$ModuleHash} to the end of the FuncName to derive PromotedFunctionName

This patch tries at the best effort to find the GUID from the original local function name (in profile), and use that in ICP promotion, and in SamplePGO matching that happens in the backend after importing/inlining:

1. in thin-link, it builds the map from OriginalName to GUID so that when thin-link reads in indirect call target profile (represented by OriginalName), it knows which GUID to import.
2. in backend compiler, if sample profile reader cannot find a profile match for PromotedFunctionName, it will try to find if there is a match for OriginalFunctionName.
3. in backend compiler, we build symbol table entry for OriginalFunctionName and pointer to the same symbol of PromotedFunctionName, so that ICP can find the correct target to promote.

9a45dae8e1 Make PredIteratorCache size() logically const. Do not require copying predecessors to get size.
Summary:
Every single benchmark i can run, on large and small cfgs, fully
connected, etc, across 3 different platforms (x86, arm., and PPC) says
that the current pred iterator cache is a losing proposition.

I can't find a case where it's faster than just walking preds, and in some cases, it's 5-10% slower.

This is due to copying the preds.
It also degrades into copying the entire cfg.

The one operation that is occasionally faster is the cached size.
This makes that operation faster by not relying on having the copies available.

I'm not even sure that is faster enough to be worth it. I, again, have
trouble finding cases where this takes long enough in a pass to be
worth caching compared to a million other things they could cache or
improve.

My suggestion:
We next remove the get() interface.
We do stronger benchmarking of size().
We probably end up killing this entire cache.

d3f451c0b0 Revert "Debug Info: Add basic support for external types references."
This reverts commit r242302. External type refs of this form were
never used by any LLVM frontend so this is effectively dead code.
(They were introduced to support clang module debug info, but in the
end we came up with a better design that doesn't use this feature at
all.)

4cf5f1bc63 Remove opt-bisect support for "cases" in favor of debug counters
Summary:
Ths "cases" support was not quite finished, is unused, and is really just debug counters.
(well, almost, debug counters are slightly more powerful, in that they can skip things at the start, too).
Note, opt-bisect itself could also be implemented as a wrapper around
debug counters, but not sure it's worth it ATM.

I'll shove it on a todo list if we think it is.

01cac3014b [coroutines] Add handling for unwind coro.ends
Summary:
The purpose of coro.end intrinsic is to allow frontends to mark the cleanup and
other code that is only relevant during the initial invocation of the coroutine
and should not be present in resume and destroy parts.

In landing pads coro.end is replaced with an appropriate instruction to unwind to
caller. The handling of coro.end differs depending on whether the target is
using landingpad or WinEH exception model.

For landingpad based exception model, it is expected that frontend uses the
`coro.end`_ intrinsic as follows:

The `CoroSpit` pass replaces `coro.end` with ``True`` in the resume functions,
thus leading to immediate unwind to the caller, whereas in start function it
is replaced with ``False``, thus allowing to proceed to the rest of the cleanup
code that is only needed during initial invocation of the coroutine.

For Windows Exception handling model, a frontend should attach a funclet bundle
referring to an enclosing cleanuppad as follows:

1952e5932f [ARM] Reapply r296865 "[ARM] fpscr read/write intrinsics not aware of each other""
The original patch r296865 was reverted as it broke the chromium builds for
Android https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32134, this patch reapplies
r296865 with a fix to make sure it doesn't cause the build regression.

The problem was that intrinsic selection on int_arm_get_fpscr was failing in
ISel this was because the code to manually select this intrinsic still thought
it was the version with no side-effects (INTRINSIC_WO_CHAIN) which is wrong as
it doesn't semantically match the definition in the tablegen code which says it
does have side-effects, I've fixed this by updating the intrinsic type to
INTRINSIC_W_CHAIN (has side-effects). I've also added a test for this based on
Hans original reproducer.

e9e99b10c8 [ARM] fpscr read/write intrinsics not aware of each other
The intrinsics __builtin_arm_get_fpscr and __builtin_arm_set_fpscr read and
write to the fpscr (Floating-Point Status and Control Register) register.

A bug exists in the __builtin_arm_get_fpscr intrinsic definition in llvm which
treats this intrinsic as a IntroNoMem which means it's not a memory access and
doesn't have any other side-effects. Having this property on this intrinsic
means that various optimizations can be done on this such as common
sub-expression elimination with other reads. This can cause issues if there has
been write to this register, e.g.

void foo(int *p) {
     p[0] = __builtin_arm_get_fpscr();
     __builtin_arm_set_fpscr(1);
     p[1] = __builtin_arm_get_fpscr();
}

in the above example the second read is currently CSE'd into the first read,
this is because llvm isn't aware that the write done by __builtin_arm_set_fpscr
effects the same register that __builtin_arm_get_fpscr reads from, to fix this
problem I've removed the property IntrNoMem so that __builtin_arm_get_fpscr is
treated as a memory access.

356ba78c03 Add function importing info from samplepgo profile to the module summary.
Summary: For SamplePGO, the profile may contain cross-module inline stacks. As we need to make sure the profile annotation happens when all the hot inline stacks are expanded, we need to pass this info to the module importer so that it can import proper functions if necessary. This patch implemented this feature by emitting cross-module targets as part of function entry metadata. In the module-summary phase, the metadata is used to build call edges that points to functions need to be imported.

faeb49676c [Stack Protection] Add diagnostic information for why stack protection was applied to a function
Stack Smash Protection is not completely free, so in hot code, the overhead it causes can cause performance issues. By adding diagnostic information for which functions have SSP and why, a user can quickly determine what they can do to stop SSP being applied to a specific hot function.

This change adds a remark that is reported by the stack protection code when an instruction or attribute is encountered that causes SSP to be applied.

DebugLoc for this purpose in the backend diagnostics. This is NFC for

a75059ebaa Encode duplication factor from loop vectorization and loop unrolling to discriminator.
Summary:
This patch starts the implementation as discuss in the following RFC: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-October/106532.html

When optimization duplicates code that will scale down the execution count of a basic block, we will record the duplication factor as part of discriminator so that the offline process tool can find the duplication factor and collect the accurate execution frequency of the corresponding source code. Two important optimization that fall into this category is loop vectorization and loop unroll. This patch records the duplication factor for these 2 optimizations.

The recording will be guarded by a flag encode-duplication-in-discriminators, which is off by default.

c2247a32db [X86] Clzero intrinsic and its addition under znver1
This patch does the following.

1. Adds an Intrinsic int_x86_clzero which works with __builtin_ia32_clzero
2. Identifies clzero feature using cpuid info. (Function:8000_0008, Checks if EBX[0]=1)
3. Adds the clzero feature under znver1 architecture.
4. The custom inserter is added in Lowering.
5. A testcase is added to check the intrinsic.
6. The clzero instruction is added to assembler test.

Patch by Ganesh Gopalasubramanian with a couple formatting tweaks, a disassembler test, and using update_llc_test.py from me.

c93f06ccf1 This patch adds a ssa_copy intrinsic, as part of splitting up D29316.
Summary:
The intrinsic, marked as returning it's first argument, has no code
generation effect (though currently not every optimization pass knows
that intrinsics with the returned attribute can be looked through).

It is about to be used to by the PredicateInfo pass to attach
predicate information to existing operands, and be able to tell what
the predicate information affects.

We deliberately do not attach any info through a second operand so
that the intrinsics do not need to dominate the comparisons/etc (since
in the case of assume, we may want to push them up the post-dominator
tree).

cefe125ec4 [IR/Analysis] Defend against getting slightly wrong template arguments
passed into CRTP base classes.

This can sometimes happen and not cause an immediate failure when the
derived class is, itself, a template. You can end up essentially calling
methods on the wrong derived type but a type where many things will
appear to "work".

To fail fast and with a clear error message we can use a static_assert,
but we have to stash that static_assert inside a method body or nested
type that won't need to be completed while building the base class. I've
tried to pick a reasonably small number of places that seemed like
reliably places for this to be instantiated.

b07ec0321e Revert r293017 and fix the actual underlying issue.
The patch committed in r293017, as discussed on the list, doesn't really
make sense but was causing an actual issue to go away.

The issue turns out to be that in one place the extra template arguments
were dropped from the OuterAnalysisManagerProxy. This in turn caused the
types used in one set of places to access the key to be completely
different from the types used in another set of places for both Loop and
CGSCC cases where there are extra arguments.

I have literally no idea how anything seemed to work with this bug in
place. It blows my mind. But it did except for mingw64 in a DLL build.

I've added a really handy static assert that helps ensure we don't break
this in the future. It immediately diagnoses the issue with a compile
failure and a very clear error message. Much better that staring at
backtraces on a build bot. =]

82b0fc2a51 [NVPTX] Add intrinsics to support named barriers.
Support for barrier synchronization between a subset of threads
in a CTA through one of sixteen explicitly specified barriers.
These intrinsics are not directly exposed in CUDA but are
critical for forthcoming support of OpenMP on NVPTX GPUs.

The intrinsics allow the synchronization of an arbitrary
(multiple of 32) number of threads in a CTA at one of 16
distinct barriers. The two intrinsics added are as follows:

call void @llvm.nvvm.barrier.n(i32 10)
waits for all threads in a CTA to arrive at named barrier #10.

call void @llvm.nvvm.barrier(i32 15, i32 992)
waits for 992 threads in a CTA to arrive at barrier #15.

b86cbf7581 Add intrinsics for constrained floating point operations
This commit introduces a set of experimental intrinsics intended to prevent
optimizations that make assumptions about the rounding mode and floating point
exception behavior.  These intrinsics will later be extended to specify
flush-to-zero behavior.  More work is also required to model instruction
dependencies in machine code and to generate these instructions from clang
(when required by pragmas and/or command line options that are not currently
supported).

eb46bca148 New OptimizationRemarkEmitter pass for MIR
This allows MIR passes to emit optimization remarks with the same level
of functionality that is available to IR passes.

It also hooks up the greedy register allocator to report spills.  This
allows for interesting use cases like increasing interleaving on a loop
until spilling of registers is observed.

I still need to experiment whether reporting every spill scales but this
demonstrates for now that the functionality works from llc
using -pass-remarks*=<pass>.

ab7818e0cc [OptDiag] Split code region out of DiagnosticInfoOptimizationBase
Code region is the only part of this class that is IR-specific.  Code
region is moved down in the inheritance tree to a new derived class,
called DiagnosticInfoIROptimization.

All the existing remarks are derived from this new class now.

This allows the new MIR pass-remark classes to be derived from
DiagnosticInfoOptimizationBase.

Also because we keep the name DiagnosticInfoOptimizationBase, the clang
parts don't need any adjustment.

0dfd445805 [PM] Introduce a PoisoningVH as a (more expensive) alternative to
AssertingVH that delays any reported error until the handle is *used*.

This allows data structures to contain handles which become dangling
provided the data structure is cleaned up afterward rather than used for
anything interesting.

The implementation is moderately horrible in part because it works to
leave AssertingVH in place, undisturbed. If at some point there is
consensus that this is simply how AssertingVH should be used, it can be
substantially simplified.

This remains a boring pointer in a non-asserts build as you would
expect. The only place we pay cost is in asserts builds.

I plan to use this as a basis for replacing the asserting VHs that
currently dangle in the new PM until invalidation occurs in both LVI and
SCEV.

eb278db84d [IR] Add LLVM_READONLY to BasicBlock::getTerminator.
I noticed that this function got called twice in compiled code to create succ_begin and succ_end iterators. Adding this directive helps the compiler share the call.

Ideally we'd just make this method available for inlining since its quite simple, but the current header file arrangements don't allow that.

46f00f2f07 [NVPTX] Auto-upgrade some NVPTX intrinsics to LLVM target-generic code.
Summary:
Specifically, we upgrade llvm.nvvm.:

 * brev{32,64}
 * clz.{i,ll}
 * popc.{i,ll}
 * abs.{i,ll}
 * {min,max}.{i,ll,u,ull}
 * h2f

These either map directly to an existing LLVM target-generic
intrinsic or map to a simple LLVM target-generic idiom.

In all cases, we check that the code we generate is lowered to PTX as we
expect.

These builtins don't need to be backfilled in clang: They're not
accessible to user code from nvcc.

531a8d8a72 [PM] Introduce an analysis set used to preserve all analyses over
a function's CFG when that CFG is unchanged.

This allows transformation passes to simply claim they preserve the CFG
and analysis passes to check for the CFG being preserved to remove the
fanout of all analyses being listed in all passes.

reminding us to do this as I could.

a1cb361020 [IR] Don't call assertModuleIsMaterialized in release builds
Summary:
To fix a release vs debug build linking error, r259695 made the body of assertModuleIsMaterialized empty if Value.cpp gets compiled in a release build. This way any code compiled as a debug build can still link against a release version of the function.

This patch takes this a step farther and removes all calls to it from Value.h in any code that includes it in a relase build.

This shrinks the opt binary on my macbook build by 17240 bytes.

20a689c27e Move the section name from GlobalObject to the LLVMContext
Summary:
Convention wisdom says that bytes in Function are precious, and the
vast, vast majority of globals do not live in special sections. Even
when they do, they tend to live in the same section. Store the section
name on the LLVMContext in a StringSet, and maintain a map from
GlobalObject* to section name like we do for metadata, prefix data, etc.

The fact that we've survived this long wasting at least three pointers
of space in Function suggests that Function bytes are perhaps not as
precious as we once thought. Given that most functions have metadata
attachments when debug info is enabled, we might consider adding a
pointer here to make that access more efficient.

a5aad4bd67 ThinLTO: add early "dead-stripping" on the Index
Summary:
Using the linker-supplied list of "preserved" symbols, we can compute
the list of "dead" symbols, i.e. the one that are not reachable from
a "preserved" symbol transitively on the reference graph.
Right now we are using this information to mark these functions as
non-eligible for import.

The impact is two folds:
- Reduction of compile time: we don't import these functions anywhere
  or import the function these symbols are calling.
- The limited number of import/export leads to better internalization.

1bdb8a9032 [ThinLTO] Subsume all importing checks into a single flag
Summary:
This adds a new summary flag NotEligibleToImport that subsumes
several existing flags (NoRename, HasInlineAsmMaybeReferencingInternal
and IsNotViableToInline). It also subsumes the checking of references
on the summary that was being done during the thin link by
eligibleForImport() for each candidate. It is much more efficient to
do that checking once during the per-module summary build and record
it in the summary.

This covers most of PassManager.h, up to the introduction of inner/outer
analysis proxies.

If there's a theme to these changes, it's simplifying the language.  For
example:

  * PreservedAnalyses is a "set of analyses", not an "abstract set".
    "Abstract" doesn't have any particular meaning here.

  * "Build types for the concept types" becomes "define the concept types".

  * Instead of "data structures optimized for pointer-like types using
    the alignment-provided low bits", say "data structures that use the
    low bits of pointers."

  * "Clear the map pointing into the results list" becomes
    "Delete the map entries that point into the results list."

This patch also fixes a few places where we referred to "function" and
"module" pass/analysis managers, instead of the more abstract "IRUnitT"
PM/AMs we have now.

8724378ec0 [PM] Teach the AAManager and AAResults layer (the worst offender for
inter-analysis dependencies) to use the new invalidation infrastructure.

This teaches it to invalidate itself when any of the peer function
AA results that it uses become invalid. We do this by just tracking the
originating IDs. I've kept it in a somewhat clunky API since some users
of AAResults are outside the new PM right now. We can clean this API up
if/when those users go away.

Secondly, it uses the registration on the outer analysis manager proxy
to trigger deferred invalidation when a module analysis result becomes
invalid.

I've included test cases that specifically try to trigger use-after-free
in both of these cases and they would crash or hang pretty horribly for
me even without ASan. Now they work nicely.

The `InvalidateAnalysis` utility pass required some tweaking to be
useful in this context and it still is pretty garbage. I'd like to
switch it back to the previous implementation and teach the explicit
invalidate method on the AnalysisManager to take care of correctly
triggering indirect invalidation, but I wanted to go ahead and send this
out so folks could see how all of this stuff works together in practice.
And, you know, that it does actually work. =]

99ebb6e7dc [PM] Introduce the facilities for registering cross-IR-unit dependencies
that require deferred invalidation.

This handles the other real-world invalidation scenario that we have
cases of: a function analysis which caches references to a module
analysis. We currently do this in the AA aggregation layer and might
well do this in other places as well.

Since this is relative rare, the technique is somewhat more cumbersome.
Analyses need to register themselves when accessing the outer analysis
manager's proxy. This proxy is already necessarily present to allow
access to the outer IR unit's analyses. By registering here we can track
and trigger invalidation when that outer analysis goes away.

To make this work we need to enhance the PreservedAnalyses
infrastructure to support a (slightly) more explicit model for "sets" of
analyses, and allow abandoning a single specific analyses even when
a set covering that analysis is preserved. That allows us to describe
the scenario of preserving all Function analyses *except* for the one
where deferred invalidation has triggered.

We also need to teach the invalidator API to support direct ID calls
instead of always going through a template to dispatch so that we can
just record the ID mapping.

I've introduced testing of all of this both for simple module<->function
cases as well as for more complex cases involving a CGSCC layer.

Much like the previous patch I've not tried to fully update the loop
pass management layer because that layer is due to be heavily reworked
to use similar techniques to the CGSCC to handle updates. As that
happens, we'll have a better testing basis for adding support like this.

8da01565db [AVX-512] Add 512-bit unmasked intrinsics for pmuldq and pmuludq so we can add them to InstCombine with the 128 and 256 bit versions.
The 128 and 256 bit masked intrinsics are currently unused by clang. The sse and avx2 unmasked intrinsics are used instead. The new 512-bit intrinsic will be used to do the same. Then all masked versions will removed and autoupgraded.

238121e8d2 [ADT] Add a generic concatenating iterator and range (take 2).
This recommits r290512 that was reverted when MSVC failed to compile it. Since
then I've played with various approaches using rextester.com (where I was able
to reproduce the failure) and think that I have a solution thanks in part to
the help of Dave Blaikie! It seems MSVC just has a defective `decltype` in this
version. Manually writing out the type seems to do the trick, even though it is
.... quite complicated.

Original commit message:
This allows both defining convenience iterator/range accessors on types
which walk across N different independent ranges within the object, and
more direct and simple usages with range based for loops such as shown
in the unittest. The same facilities are used for both. They end up
quite small and simple as it happens.

I've also switched an iterator on `Module` to use this. I would like to
add another convenience iterator that includes even more sequences as
part of it and seeing this one already present motivated me to actually
abstract it away and introduce a general utility.

which walk across N different independent ranges within the object, and
more direct and simple usages with range based for loops such as shown
in the unittest. The same facilities are used for both. They end up
quite small and simple as it happens.

I've also switched an iterator on `Module` to use this. I would like to
add another convenience iterator that includes even more sequences as
part of it and seeing this one already present motivated me to actually
abstract it away and introduce a general utility.

Currently, DIGlobalVariables holds a DIExpression. This is not the

    not how to get to its location.

(2) It makes it unsafe/hard to update the expressions when we call
    replaceExpression on the DIGLobalVariable.

(3) It makes it impossible to represent a global variable that is in
    more than one location (e.g., a variable with multiple
    DW_OP_LLVM_fragment-s).  We also moved away from attaching the
    DIExpression to DILocalVariable for the same reasons.

This reapplies r289902 with additional testcase upgrades and a change
to the Bitcode record for DIGlobalVariable, that makes upgrading the
old format unambiguous also for variables without DIExpressions.

0ab6669d6d Revert "[IR] Remove the DIExpression field from DIGlobalVariable."
This reverts commit 289920 (again).
I forgot to implement a Bitcode upgrade for the case where a DIGlobalVariable
has not DIExpression. Unfortunately it is not possible to safely upgrade
these variables without adding a flag to the bitcode record indicating which
version they are.
My plan of record is to roll the planned follow-up patch that adds a
unit: field to DIGlobalVariable into this patch before recomitting.
This way we only need one Bitcode upgrade for both changes (with a
version flag in the bitcode record to safely distinguish the record
formats).

Sorry for the churn!

Min/max canonicalization (r287585) exposes the fact that we're missing combines for min/max patterns. 
This patch won't solve the example that was attached to that thread, so something else still needs fixing.

The line between InstCombine and InstSimplify gets blurry here because sometimes the icmp instruction that
we want to fold to already exists, but sometimes it's the swapped form of what we want.

Corresponding changes for smax/umin/umax to follow.

2012251e73 New API for merging debug locations. NFC.
Given two debug locations the function getMergedLocation combines the
locations into a single location (which may be an empty location).
Please see https://reviews.llvm.org/D26256 for the discussion leading
up to this API.

Note the function is currently a stub.  This allows optimisations to
use the API although no location will actually be used.

This is patch 1 out of 8 for D26256.  As suggested by David Blaikie,
each change in D26256 has been broken out into a separate patch.

aba15d97df Replace APFloatBase static fltSemantics data members with getter functions
At least the plugin used by the LibreOffice build
(<https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Clang_plugins>) indirectly
uses those members (through inline functions in LLVM/Clang include files in turn
using them), but they are not exported by utils/extract_symbols.py on Windows,
and accessing data across DLL/EXE boundaries on Windows is generally
problematic.

8a2d046796 Stop lying about pointers' required alignments.
These extra specializations were added in the depths of history (r67984 from
2009) and are clearly problematic now. The pointers actually are aligned to the
default (8 bytes), since otherwise UBsan would be complaining loudly.

I *think* it originally made sense because there was no "alignof" to infer the
correct value so the generic case went with what malloc returned (8-byte
aliged objects), and on 32-bit machines this specialization was correct. It
became wrong when we started compiling for 64-bit, and caused a UBSan failure
when we tried to put a ValueHandle into a DenseMap.

Should fix the Green Dragon UBSan bot.

4fc787e70d [PM] Support invalidation of inner analysis managers from a pass over the outer IR unit.
Summary:
This never really got implemented, and was very hard to test before
a lot of the refactoring changes to make things more robust. But now we
can test it thoroughly and cleanly, especially at the CGSCC level.

The core idea is that when an inner analysis manager proxy receives the
invalidation event for the outer IR unit, it needs to walk the inner IR
units and propagate it to the inner analysis manager for each of those
units. For example, each function in the SCC needs to get an
invalidation event when the SCC gets one.

The function / module interaction is somewhat boring here. This really
becomes interesting in the face of analysis-backed IR units. This patch
effectively handles all of the CGSCC layer's needs -- both invalidating
SCC analysis and invalidating function analysis when an SCC gets
invalidated.

However, this second aspect doesn't really handle the
LoopAnalysisManager well at this point. That one will need some change
of design in order to fully integrate, because unlike the call graph,
the entire function behind a LoopAnalysis's results can vanish out from
under us, and we won't even have a cached API to access. I'd like to try
to separate solving the loop problems into a subsequent patch though in
order to keep this more focused so I've adapted them to the API and
updated the tests that immediately fail, but I've not added the level of
testing and validation at that layer that I have at the CGSCC layer.

An important aspect of this change is that the proxy for the
FunctionAnalysisManager at the SCC pass layer doesn't work like the
other proxies for an inner IR unit as it doesn't directly manage the
FunctionAnalysisManager and invalidation or clearing of it. This would
create an ever worsening problem of dual ownership of this
responsibility, split between the module-level FAM proxy and this
SCC-level FAM proxy. Instead, this patch changes the SCC-level FAM proxy
to work in terms of the module-level proxy and defer to it to handle
much of the updates. It only does SCC-specific invalidation. This will
become more important in subsequent patches that support more complex
invalidaiton scenarios.

a2d4395226 IR, X86: Understand !absolute_symbol metadata on global variables.
Summary:
Attaching !absolute_symbol to a global variable does two things:
1) Marks it as an absolute symbol reference.
2) Specifies the value range of that symbol's address.
Teach the X86 backend to allow absolute symbols to appear in place of
immediates by extending the relocImm and mov64imm32 matchers. Start using
relocImm in more places where it is legal.

In particular, if we have an instruction with side effects
which has a no non-dbg use not depending on the bits, we still
perform RAUW destroying the dbg.value's first argument.

57907269da [DIExpression] Introduce a dedicated DW_OP_LLVM_fragment operation
so we can stop using DW_OP_bit_piece with the wrong semantics.

The gist is that in LLVM we've been misinterpreting DW_OP_bit_piece's
offset field to mean the offset into the source variable rather than
the offset into the location at the top the DWARF expression stack. In
order to be able to fix this in a subsequent patch, this patch
introduces a dedicated DW_OP_LLVM_fragment operation with the
semantics that we used to apply to DW_OP_bit_piece, which is what we
actually need while inside of LLVM. This patch is complete with a
bitcode upgrade for expressions using the old format. It does not yet
fix the DWARF backend to use DW_OP_bit_piece correctly.

Implementation note: We discussed several options for implementing
this, including reserving a dedicated field in DIExpression for the
fragment size and offset, but using an custom operator at the end of
the expression works just fine and is more efficient because we then
only pay for it when we need it.

  pointee types are removed, so this is a necessary step towards removing
  pointee types.

66a2409cf2 Factor out common parts of LVI and Float2Int into ConstantRange [NFCI]
This just extracts out the transfer rules for constant ranges into a single shared point. As it happens, neither bit of code actually overlaps in terms of the handled operators, but with this change that could easily be tweaked in the future.

I also want to have this separated out to make experimenting with a eager value info implementation and possibly a ValueTracking-like fixed depth recursion peephole version. There's no reason all four of these can't share a common implementation which reduces the chances of bugs.

05eccda0d4 [GVN, OptDiag] Include the value that is forwarded in load elimination
[recommitting after the fix in r288307]

This requires some changes to the opt-diag API.  Hal and I have
discussed this at the Dev Meeting and came up with a streaming delimiter
(setExtraArgs) to solve this.

Arguments after this delimiter are only included in the optimization
records and not in the remarks printed in the compiler output.  (Note,
how in the test the content of the YAML file changes but the remarks on
the compiler output don't.)

This implements the green GVN message with a bug fix at line

2001edc7fd [PM] Fix a bad invalid densemap iterator bug in the new invalidation
logic.

Yup, the invalidation logic has an invalid iterator bug. Can't make this
stuff up.

We can recursively insert things into the map so we can't cache the
iterator into that map across those recursive calls. We did this
differently in two places. I have an end-to-end test that triggers at
least one of them. I'm going to work on a nice minimal test case that
triggers these, but I didn't want to leave the bug in the tree while
I tried to trigger it.

Also, the dense map iterator checking stuff we have now is awesome. =D

84780666b4 [PM] Extend the explicit 'invalidate' method API on analysis results to
accept an Invalidator that allows them to invalidate themselves if their
dependencies are in turn invalidated.

Rather than recording the dependency graph ahead of time when analysis
get results from other analyses, this simply lets each result trigger
the immediate invalidation of any analyses they actually depend on. They
do this in a way that has three nice properties:

1) They don't have to handle transitive dependencies because the
   infrastructure will recurse for them.
2) The invalidate methods are still called only once. We just
   dynamically discover the necessary topological ordering, everything
   is memoized nicely.
3) The infrastructure still provides a default implementation and can
   access it so that only analyses which have dependencies need to do
   anything custom.

To make this work at all, the invalidation logic also has to defer the
deletion of the result objects themselves so that they can remain alive
until we have collected the complete set of results to invalidate.

A unittest is added here that has exactly the dependency pattern we are
concerned with. It hit the use-after-free described by Sean in much
detail in the long thread about analysis invalidation before this
change, and even in an intermediate form of this change where we failed
to defer the deletion of the result objects.

There is an important problem with doing dependency invalidation that
*isn't* solved here: we don't *enforce* that results correctly
invalidate all the analyses whose results they depend on.

I actually looked at what it would take to do that, and it isn't as hard
as I had thought but the complexity it introduces seems very likely to
outweigh the benefit. The technique would be to provide a base class for
an analysis result that would be populated with other results, and
automatically provide the invalidate method which immediately does the
correct thing. This approach has some nice pros IMO:
- Handles the case we care about and nothing else: only *results*
  that depend on other analyses trigger extra invalidation.
- Localized to the result rather than centralized in the analysis
  manager.
- Ties the storage of the reference to another result to the triggering
  of the invalidation of that analysis.
- Still supports extending invalidation in customized ways.

But the down sides here are:
- Very heavy-weight meta-programming is needed to provide this base
  class.
- Requires a pretty awful API for accessing the dependencies.

Ultimately, I fear it will not pull its weight. But we can re-evaluate
this at any point if we start discovering consistent problems where the
invalidation and dependencies get out of sync. It will fit as a clean
layer on top of the facilities in this patch that we can add if and when
we need it.

Note that I'm not really thrilled with the names for these APIs... The
name "Invalidator" seems ok but not great. The method name "invalidate"
also. In review some improvements were suggested, but they really need
*other* uses of these terms to be updated as well so I'm going to do
that in a follow-up commit.

I'm working on the actual fixes to various analyses that need to use
these, but I want to try to get tests for each of them so we don't
regress. And those changes are seperable and obvious so once this goes
in I should be able to roll them out throughout LLVM.

caf926700f [GVN, OptDiag] Include the value that is forwarded in load elimination
This requires some changes to the opt-diag API.  Hal and I have
discussed this at the Dev Meeting and came up with a streaming delimiter
(setExtraArgs) to solve this.

Arguments after this delimiter are only included in the optimization
records and not in the remarks printed in the compiler output.  (Note,
how in the test the content of the YAML file changes but the remarks on
the compiler output don't.)

This implements the green GVN message with a bug fix at line

9d50667842 [PM] Remove weird marking of invalidated analyses as "preserved".
This never made a lot of sense. They've been invalidated for one IR unit
but they aren't really preserved in any normal sense. It seemed like it
would be an elegant way of communicating to outer IR units that pass
managers and adaptors had already handled invalidation, but we've since
ended up adding sets that model this more clearly: we're now using
the 'AllAnalysesOn<IRUnitT>' set to handle cases where the trick of
"preserving" invalidated analyses didn't work.

This patch moves to rely on that technique exclusively and removes the
cumbersome API aspect of updating the preserved set when doing
invalidation. This in turn will simplify a *number* of upcoming patches.

This has a side benefit of exposing a number of places where we were
failing to mark the 'AllAnalysesOn<IRUnitT>' set as preserved. This
patch fixes those, and with those fixes shouldn't change any observable
behavior.

29cd3b551c add optional param to copy metadata when creating selects; NFC
There are other spots where we can use this; we're currently dropping 
metadata in some places, and there are proposed changes where we will
want to propagate metadata.

IRBuilder's CreateSelect() already has a parameter like this, so this
change makes the regular 'Create' API line up with that.

dad102bcc9 [PM] Change the static object whose address is used to uniquely identify
analyses to have a common type which is enforced rather than using
a char object and a `void *` type when used as an identifier.

This has a number of advantages. First, it at least helps some of the
confusion raised in Justin Lebar's code review of why `void *` was being
used everywhere by having a stronger type that connects to documentation
about this.

However, perhaps more importantly, it addresses a serious issue where
the alignment of these pointer-like identifiers was unknown. This made
it hard to use them in pointer-like data structures. We were already
dodging this in dangerous ways to create the "all analyses" entry. In
a subsequent patch I attempted to use these with TinyPtrVector and
things fell apart in a very bad way.

And it isn't just a compile time or type system issue. Worse than that,
the actual alignment of these pointer-like opaque identifiers wasn't
guaranteed to be a useful alignment as they were just characters.

This change introduces a type to use as the "key" object whose address
forms the opaque identifier. This both forces the objects to have proper
alignment, and provides type checking that we get it right everywhere.
It also makes the types somewhat less mysterious than `void *`.

We could go one step further and introduce a truly opaque pointer-like
type to return from the `ID()` static function rather than returning
`AnalysisKey *`, but that didn't seem to be a clear win so this is just
the initial change to get to a reliably typed and aligned object serving
is a key for all the analyses.

Thanks to Richard Smith and Justin Lebar for helping pick plausible
names and avoid making this refactoring many times. =] And thanks to
Sean for the super fast review!

While here, I've tried to move away from the "PassID" nomenclature
entirely as it wasn't really helping and is overloaded with old pass
manager constructs. Now we have IDs for analyses, and key objects whose
address can be used as IDs. Where possible and clear I've shortened this
to just "ID". In a few places I kept "AnalysisID" to make it clear what
was being identified.

8578a62eac [AVX-512] Replace masked 16-bit element variable shift intrinsics with new unmasked versions and selects.
The same thing was done to 32-bit and 64-bit element sizes previously.

Both the (V)CVTDQ2PD (i32 to f64) and (V)CVTUDQ2PD (u32 to f64) conversion instructions are lossless and can be safely represented as generic SINT_TO_FP/UINT_TO_FP calls instead of x86 intrinsics without affecting final codegen.

3f2c8aa170 [AMDGPU] Add wave barrier builtin
The wave barrier represents the discardable barrier. Its main purpose is to
carry convergent attribute, thus preventing illegal CFG optimizations. All lanes
in a wave come to convergence point simultaneously with SIMT, thus no special
instruction is needed in the ISA. The barrier is discarded during code generation.
